Is MMA getting bigger than boxing?

With the amount of exposure that MMA is receiving of late with the reality show on Spike and some televised matches, is MMA getting bigger than boxing? It seems like it is at least a fad, if not more while boxing seems to be waning...will MMA be bigger than boxing?

MMA is nowhere near as popular as boxing man. I dont think it will ever be. Case and point.

Look at the number of replies in the global section of this website as opposed to the Non Stop Boxing section.

That right there as a random sample is good enough.

wtf...**** MMA. How do some ppl enjoy watching that bull****. I mean, hey its a real fight goin on, but its not the beautiful sweet science boxing is. Some fights are BS, one punch knockouts in the first seconds of the 1st round! All i can say is boxing is an official and professional sport, and MMA is not. Bottom Line.

It'll be more of a niche market than boxing is now. The ground and pound is too long and not much happens to the casual fans. The strikers make grown men wince and not want to watch coz it's too brutal. It'll get more popular but I don't think it will ever be as popular as boxing.

I would be inclined to agree...I watch MMA from time to time but it doesn't seem like a real sport to me....it is kinda funny to watch, kinda like tough man but it seems like a fringe thing...it is getting quite a bit of exposure though, which boxing is not.

it does seem to attract different kind of fans .

i may be wrong , but a majority of MMA fans in my country are teens or young adults caught in the "jackass-yo MTV raps" way of life , thinking that those guys "are nuts ,real killers i swear they would kill anybody and on and on and on..."

boxing fans are from higher social class , are ALL hardcore fans with a scientific and historical point of view , and seems to pride themselves in being able to understand the sweet science and have a great disdain for kick boxing and MMA fans .

it is just not targeting the same prospects , in a marketing point of view

MMA will be a flavor of the month sometime soon. With the Ultimate Fighter and things its exposure will grow to be a higher spot than boxing in the near future... It will be short lived however and will fade out as most fads do back into rather obscurity.

Those who think that Mixed Martial Artists are bums or that their sport is not worthy of admiration are either haters or ignorant people. The training that top MMA guys do is insane and their well rounded skills make them lethal fighters. Just go and check guys like Mirko Filipovic, Fedor Emelianenko, Andrei Arlovski, and Sergei Kharitonov and tell me if they are impressive or not.

The only MMA sanction I see being a threat to boxing is Pride Fighting Championships. They aren't as "grappling friendly" as UFC and favor strikers more than wrestlers and grapplers. Cro-Cop and Fedor being the most anticipated match in years.
