He didn't have thee BIGGEST fanfare, but the trumpeting up of his world-class credentials on a deeply padded record and some deeply mediocre performances has been sickening.John Murray was never a hypejob. Sky backed him because he's a ticket seller in Manchester and had an all-action style, and, obviously, because selling fighters like Murray is their job, but at no point were the boxing public outside of Manchester fooled. He got practically no mainstream media coverage, and I don't remember ever reading a thread or comment page on a boxing website claiming how he was the next big thing on the world stage or something. As for him being undeserving of a title shot, welcome to modern boxing. Even so, he was a damn sight more deserving than Matthew Hatton, who fought for a title live on HBO!
A not quite fully blossomed hypejob, but a budding hypejob nonetheless.
Had Murray somehow, SOMEHOW, navigated Mitchell, and carried on with a padded win-streak, you can bet that more and more people would have been buying it.Comment

I am a Khan fan and I will call out this thread for what it is.
Hard Boiled is a Khan fan, and dice Murray has been trashtalking in some ways of Khan in the past, Hard Boiled is getting his own back in his own little way.Comment

No one here gave a ***** about John Murray. Sky hyped him because thats their job.Bro, you're so much better than reheated !! Anorak.
That's him in there, where's you?
Reach down deep and find the Diggler again.
You only have to look at recent posts on this forum to see how even fairly close followers of the sport were being taken in. Easy to see how it would've snowballed had Murray's win-streak had somehow miraculously continued beyond tonight. Thank goodness Kevin flopped him and real talent got the W while hypejobs took a L tonight.Comment

Errr, yeah, they did. Plenty peeps talking up his chances over Mitchell in the last week. These things happen in stages. Had he somehow navigated Mitchell, by a stroke of favorable officiating or some twist of fate, he would've had a bunch more people on board. Manc ticket-seller gets a bunch more fans, move onto the next brand-building stage.
Like I said, not a fully blossomed hypejob, but a budding one. Just not good enough to get past the prelim stages of world-class. And so his hype is nipped in the bud, thank goodness.Comment
