I can't remember their names, they were featured in a documentary that I had watched. A couple of young boxers coming up fighting their way through the profession ranks. The footage was shot in a care giving center where people could not care for themselves. One brother had to wear a hockey helmet because he continued to fall down. I believe that the other was in a wheelchair. Neither brother could speak very well and their mental capacities were limited.

I also can't remember this guys name. An ex worlds champion who spent his elderly years in a care giving center every morning reminding the nurses that he had a fight tonight and that he needed to get ready.

Check out Ad Wolgast and how he spent many of his years after retiring from the ring.

Walk up to Al "Blue" Lewis, shake his monsterous hand and say hello. If you can understand anything of what he might say to you then let me know. Great hearted man is Blue.

Man, I can't remember his name.... That kid from Louisville who stole the show at the '60 olympics and then set the professional game ablaze. A single man who changed the world......

Ali did very well, you will not find him in a care center being tended to by nurses. You will find him at home being taken care of by family and nurses. But he is the greatest......... Parkinsons

Boxing today is a completely diffirent world. Better training, better equipment, smarter fighters, much better medical expertise and staff.

Sure it still happens but not that often, dont forget most of those fighters you mentioned Boxed in a time where medicine was crap and their idea of Birth Control was a coat hanger and pulling out. Millions of people died and got crippled by stuff that we laugh at today

Look at how those fighters trained, lived, what kind of medical help they have, how they managed their bodies.
    .

Its unfair to group those guys with todays fighters, its a whole diffirent sport.

As I recall I've debated with you possibly 3 times in the 7 years that I've been on-line. I read alot of your posts which consist of endless opinions, some good and some not so good. I just don't agree on your view of bringing back 15 round title fights. There is no reason for these men to battle even more for the pure pleasure of the fan. This isn't like playing an extra inning in baseball or going to a shoot out in hockey, boxing is not a game. You know how real it is and I know how real it is but it's like that little family secret that stays tucked away in our minds. We know it's there but we don't speak about it. For whatever reason it is not allowed SSssshhhhhh...... 12 rounds is plenty ...........Rockin'

It's completely fair. Damage is damage. When they can teach a fighter to incur less brain damage or better yet a brain that is constructed to with-stand the blows and rebounds harmlessly off of the skull and ridge then let me know.

Todays fighters are superior in training techniques thus producing stronger fighters. Fighters that can give more and take more. But the brain, it's mechanics, it's wiring, it's liquid protection stays the same. The blows get harder, the fighter stands stronger yet the brain remains the same. For awhile atleast. 12 rounds is plenty........Rockin'

It's not dramatic. What is the thing that fighters don't like to talk about?

Your opinion was that 15 rounders should be brought back, mine was that 12 rounds is enough. Your funny on these social forums. You make a suggestion and you get all clamed up and defensive as if I've doubted your word. My opinion of you is what it is. I just don't believe that 15 rounds is what the sport needs. The 1st thing that this sport needs is a thread of credibility and more so a thread of integrity in the publics eye. The same people will watch the 15 rounder just as it will the 12 rounder. The sport has never been the same since Palermo, Norris and everybody in the IBC were brought down by the feds. Boxing just never recovered from that. It left most with it's crooked or fixed attitude in the general public. 15 rounds will not prove a fighter any more worthy over a champion that fought 12 rounds for his belt...........Rockin'

I can also point to world champions from the modern era who will strenuously disagree with ur opinion that 15 rds. isnt more worthy than winning over 12...

That's what I mean about being overly dramatic...like all boxers are shell shocked over the threat of potential injury in the ring...Ive never run into a boxer in my life who would bat an eye when discussing death in the ring, getting injured...you make it out here like fighters get nervous and anxious and fidgety or something when the big topic comes up....maybe some do, I dont know, but on my end Ive never seen any indication of that...

                      Boxings image never recovered.

But looking further into it I would say yes, that boxing has never been the same since those days. 2 fight nights each week televised, venues grossing nice gates even when the talent of the over all card was average. Small clubs around the state hosting monthly shows. The time before boxing had all of these different titles. When you could ask a kid, hey who is the middleweight champion and he could probably tell you. I follow the sport and find it hard to keep up with, so does john Q Public. So rather than try to understand they just say its fixed.

And 12 rounds is long enough. You'd be a ***** to fight if you slip punches like you evade topics.........Rockin'
