Nah, all jokes aside, floyd can look sensational against overmatched opponents, but not the way roy could.
Whats weird about this thread is the people still talk to Hugh Grant on here.
Ok Ok I'm going to stop now I just can't fathom how someone can be that troubled.

I noticed a lot of people riding for Roy, which is good. I happen to think Roy was the most ATHLETICALLY gifted fighter the world has probably ever seen. His athleticism allowed a lot of his holes in his style to be masked. Once Roy no longer became the fastest or sharper guy in the ring he has looked stunningly mediocre. It's almost like Roy was all world against Ruiz and then just like that, he can't compete with the Danny Green's of the world. When there is such a large gap in how you compete, it takes away from how GIFTED of a BOXER you really are.
Fighters like a Marquez, Hopkins, Sweet Pea, and Floyd are truly examples of gifted fighters. To watch Sweet Pea compete, albeit lose, to Trinidad when his better days were long past him, was a thing of beauty. When you're simply out there surviving on your skill set alone, you are a great boxer. Period.
Which brings me to the original statement...in my humble opinion, Floyd is the most skilled fighter I've ever laid eyes on. I'm only 31 with about 21-22 years of boxing understanding. So I can't speak about guys prior to that. While being secure in my recognition of his abilities without fear of backlash from people who may not like him...Floyd is simply poetry in motion. His control of distance in the ring, punch/foot placement, pace of the fight, true ring generalship, angles, feints, defense, etc is unmatched by anyone in the sport. Couple that with the fact, Floyd has some dog in him too. He's not a punk in between those ropes.
So when people make fight assessments regarding Floyd...whether it's how hard Margarito hit, how long Paul Williams is, how fast/strong Manny is, etc...I kinda chuckle to myself because those attributes won't necessarily win you a fight against Floyd. He's great.

Can't understand the difference between greatness as a fighter and skills?
oooookaaaaaayyyy...
So if Pac beat Floyd, id assume youd still think Floyd had more skills. But would you still say Floyds a better fighter as well even though he lost to Pac?

Yea, Roy was on peds, that's why he was kicking all sorts of ass. But its not like other fighters weren't, so even then he should get a little credit.
It'd crazy how boxing fans give known cheats like Roy a free pass, while at the same time attack some one who is never known to cheat like PAC.
And Floyd is not the best, not even one of the best. He has been to inactive and has missed too many opponents, as amazing as Floyd is, he hasn't proved it enough to be compared to boxings greats, IMO.
I mean, Floyd retired in the prime of his career. Look at what Ali and Robinson did in their careers, how tough they had it, how they fought every single possible contender. Floyds a joke compared to them. I'm not even blaming Floyd, the guy made a fortune, so he had little reason to keep it up.
Robinson is still easily the best IMO. Floyd not even in the conversation.Last edited by SpitBalla; 07-13-2011, 11:41 AM.
