He knows Manny is superstitious. They should do the tests right after the fight. No point in doing it before it other than to get a mental edge over your opponent. Not like hgh/steroids magically disappear from your system.
Ok, Manny also said he lost because of the gloves and a few other things. You don't think it's possible that OST was just another excuse used with the rest of em??

Ill defend Larry to the end.

The man is a throwback to an era of Boxing that was more dramatic and exciting.

They just don't make em like that anymore.

Man F**K that. His job is to ask the tough questions, like he does everybody else. Not be biased and pick and choose who he asks tough questions too!!

One of the most sensible comments on this subject. Most people do not understand what makes Merchant "tick". They say it's vodka or something ****** like that. They don't consider that Merchant is a former long time Journalist of sterling reputation and expertise. He majored in boxing when it was a sport in which it was absolutely imperative that the fighters would FIGHT, and give entertainment value for money to the fans do that they would come hack and the fight guys could make a living. They didn't get Multimillion Dollar paydays for scarpering around the ring running like crazy, like we just saw Haye doing.

His own mantra is that the cash customers come first, because without them there is no boxing. SOoooo when he sees a bocer who spends his ring time running, or clinching, or generally stinking out the place (as he always used to truthfully say about Mayweather) he feels that he is representing the cash customers, and voices the criticism he feels they would be making.

His negative comments about Roy Jones, were not about Jones himself, nor his performances, but because he felt that Jones fought too many opponents who were not nearly good enough to make a fight of it. That his competition should have been a bit more on his level. (Of course nobody was).

He criticises Hopkins, because he is not blind, he can see that Hopkins holds, butts, rabbit punches, lowblows, fouls as much as he can get away with, and fights only little, and Merchant does not feel that the opponent has had a square deal, and by extension, neither have the fans. To HIM, this is not boxing, it's thuggery, and he doesn't like it, and says so.

He criticized Lewis because he knew that Lewis had been avoiding Klitschko for at least a year, and at the same time was badmouthing him, so after the fight where Lewis was the luckiest man alive, to have got the decision, Merchant put it to him STRAIGHT. He asked him whether NOW (after all his badmouthing) Lewis would admit that Klitschko was a pretty good fighter. That's ALL that he wanted to know. And Lewis, true to form, kept badmouthing him, which made Merchant keep digging at him, to finally force an admission.

Maybe some will agree with me on this. But if they don't, I don't care. I like Merchant, because he's sincere, truthful and factual, as well as being VERY knowledgeable about what goes on BEHIND THE SCENES.

Ok, I hear the points you're making.

My thing is, it just so happens, the "majority" of those he critisizes are black.

Why won't he critisize Manny for not taking the test? Ok he doesn't have to critisize him, but at least ask during the post-fight interview. Hell, if you didn't know any better you would think PED's don't exist cause Larry never says anything about them!!

I love Larry. He's like an insult comic. He just calls things as he sees them. I remember him giving Floyd major props when Floyd fought Judah and called his performance "masterful". He just gave Floyd shit after the Baldomir fight because Floyd said that he gave people an exciting fight and Larry knew that was just bullshit.

My favorite Larry Merchant moment was during the Foreman-Moorer, when he said Moorer was exposing the myth of Foreman's power.
