Larry Merchant: MBC Of All Time?

I'm gonna cut straight to the chase.

Larry Merchant wins the "Most Biased Commentator" of all time award. I hate to bring race into this, but he's only biased against African American fighters.

    Here's a list:

    Roy Jones Jr

    Bernard Hopkins

    Floyd Mayweather Jr

    David Haye

    Lennox Lewis (Lewis-Vitali post-fight interview)

A commentator is suppose to call a fight without being biased. It just seems like no matter if the above fighters are winning or losing, his commentating is biased regardless.

Quick example, instead of giving Hopkins his just due in the Pavlik fight, Larry chose to bash Bob Arum for putting Pavlik in the ring with Hopkins. I remember thinking to myself "WTF".

Some would say Larry shows biased towards these fighters because they are ****y. But then I ask myself, what about Calzaghe and Hatton. I just don't get it.

He doesn't seem biased at all.

Max Kellerman is extremely biased against white boxers, and even goes so far as to LIE to discredit them.

LIE: During the Calzaghe-Hopkins fight, Max said "Joe Calzaghe was knocked down by Chris Eubank in the first round of their fight"

LIE: Max said "Berto defeated Urango by a wider margin on the scorecards than Ricky Hatton did" after the Berto-Urango fight.

LIE: "Rahman is taking this fight on THREE weeks notice" during the Rahman-Klitschko HBO telecast. Old news threads here at boxingscene can verify it was SIX weeks notice - Rahman agreed to the fight in late October and fought Wlad on Dec 13.

I hate Larry Merchant. I've never noticed him hating on black fighters, so I can't speak on that. But I do know you're not the first to bring this up. Ron Artest was talking about this on Twitter during the Klit-Haye fight.

The main thing I hate about him is that he has got to be the most negative sports commentator I've ever heard. He complains about technical fights (ie Mayweather-Mosley) way to much and he always comes off as sounding like a bitter old man. He literally makes fights worse with his constant complaining. I'd rather listen to Max Kellerman then Larry Merchant.

Teddy Atlas and Al Bernstein don't seem to like white boxers either.
I haven't given that much thought. But why is Larry like that?

Come on, you gotta admit, you see it too.

Larry Merchant just wants to see good sportsmanship and high standards in boxers, it has nothing to do with race.

He came down HARD on Vitali after he quit on his stool during the 2000 Byrd fight.

He's Biased towards a certain style of fight or fighter. Which is weird for a expert like him. You would think he would enjoy many styles of fighters and fights.

Foreman was easily the most biased, he often would refuse to acknowledge what was happening right in front of his eyes.

No, He's biased towards what he perceives as boring fighters. But like I said many experts enjoy these technical type of fighters and fights as they do other type of fighters. So thats what I dont understand about a expert like him, its his or no way.
