Wladmir 'chandelier jaw' ****ko
dont want none of james toney.
he avoids toney like the plague-
he wont even dare mention Toneys
name. I dare Chandeleir man to call
out toney i dare him.
toney's slick, quite slick, but wladimir does not have a sloppy jab that toney would be able to take advantage of.
wladimir usually doesn't try to work the inside as a strategy, so toney's bread and butter would most likely not come in to play like it did against guinn. also have to mention wladimir's new and improved footwork was thoroughly impressive for a guy of his size. wlad has overall good movement and coordination, but does seem to have a bit of trouble with transitioning from punching to clinching. i'll bet he's working on that though.
toney's got some pop, but i don't see it as equaling peter's power. plus, besides the sander's fight, nobody has ever outboxed wladimir. not even slickster chris byrd who didn't win more than two rounds against wlad. also, toney has only tko'd/ko'd one fighter at heavyweight so far, and hasn't fought any top fivers yet. and has not fought a puncher with nearly as much power as wlad.
the stamina of both of these fighters in interesting in comparison. wlad is always in top shape and works as hard in camp as any boxer has. toney's is able to go the distance by being very relaxed and sometimes shortening his punch output after a round or two of action.
big height advantage for wladimir of 9 inches i beleive. also a 5 inch reach advantage. these stats alone would be difficult to overcome even for the slickest of boxers considering wladimir uses a jab and left hook as effective as anyone in the heavies.
in short, sorry toney fans but i see wlad winning an easy decision and wouldn't rule out a tko. not sure if he could ko toney though, 'cause jt has no noticable neck at all.

I agree with everything J said, but I would add that Toney has a small chance - if he can somehow bob and weave inside and land a jumping uppercut or half lunging left hook on Wlad's jaw, he wins.
Wlad's chin is a real liability - it's not that one punch will take him out, it's just that one punch puts his legs on jello street, and he wobbles and staggers about while his opponent proceeds to blast away. He lost three 10-8 rounds to Peter, with Peter landing hardly any clean punches in any of them. If Toney does get Wlad in trouble (and it's a huge if), my guess is he finishes the job decisively, unlike Peter.

Maybe if he had a little more power. But I just dont think Tony's got the muscle he'd need to do it. I would love to see the fight, though.
Toney can not knock out Wlad by landing one uppercut or hook. Toney barely had one punch power as a middleweight, so why is he going to as a fat heavyweight? Toney's power is an illusion based largely on his angry trash talking persona. If he behaved like Chris Byrd people would call him feather fisted. Looking squarely at the results of his fights, Toney hits only a little harder than Byrd or Oquendo. When you land 60% of your shots (many of them counterpunches which are even more effective) on an opponent for 12 rounds and can't knock them out or put them down, you are not a puncher.
I think Toney's power at heavyweight is underrated by most people. When he fought Holyfield, yeah Holyfield was washed up, but does chin fade with age? I dont really think so. And Toney's punches were really hurting him badly, and Holyfield was Ko'd.
I agree he is not not going to KO wlad with one or 2 punches but I think its possible he could knock him down, affect the scoring.
Wlad's chin is poor, end of story, end of discussion, end of everything. I dont wanna hear any **** about being good, because its not, he can be knocked down, being knocked down frequently=poor chin
