Comments Thread For: Merchant on Mayweather-Ortiz, Pacquiao-Marquez, More

During a recent interview, I asked HBO boxing sage Larry Merchant about pending fistic events, including the Sept. 17 Vicious Victor Ortiz-Floyd Mayweather Jr. show (HBO, probably from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Mexican Independence Day weekend) and the Nov. 12 ‘’Chapter 3” event at the same location between Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny Pacquiao.

Agreed on the devon part, but people would still anticipate a bradley return whenever he does return.

Wouldn't it be funny if Devon wins tonight, then goes on to fight Khan while Bradley just sits at home with his thumb up his butt?

if pac-margarito earns 1.3 million ppv when margarito is the heavy underdog, i don't think ortiz-chicken floyd will outdo pac vs. cry-baby-marquez...

but if it will, so be it...

v.cassiusali; dude you are very childish calling Mayweather chicken when it's your lover Manny Pacman (Packing Steriods) who was scared to take the test and will never fight anyone other than older shot fighters who had already lost and looked bad in their last fights; while Money Mayweather fights and beats a Mosley who had just dominated an Margarito or an Ortiz who had just dominated a young undefeated Andre Berto!! Dude get a life and a new nickname for yourfelf because you are nothing like cassius clay/muhammad ali!

You call Marquez a cry baby, but that so-called cry baby beat Packing Steriods once and gave him a hell of a time the other fight which could have went to either fighter!!!! Packing will not fight a young live opponent coming off a good or a dominant win.

Larry Merchant, eventhough he doesn't like Mayweather very much can acknowledge that the Ortiz fight is a better look. I bet Pac fans are going to hate on Larry now.

Then why did Floyd fight Judah?

Because Floyd already was signed to fight Zab Judah who was the then "Undisputed WW champion" after beating Corey Spinks in St Louis. Zab was a legit challenge for the whole ball of wax at WW but surprisingly, Zab lost to Carlos Baldomir. Floyd still fought Zab eventhough he lost because he wanted to honor his contract but Zab just took less AND still had 2 of the belts that Baldomir didn't want to pay for. Then Floyd fought Baldomir and became the Lineal champion at WW. It wasn't Margarito, Cotto or Williams. Pac fans and most people in general try to **** on Floyd but don't know what's up with his career and the behind the scene dealings.

Because Judah was young and a much better look than Baldimor who won because Judah had a bad night!!! Who also gave a very good count of himself before losing. What kind of fight did Clottey, Cotto, Mosley and the old farts give to Packing!

After Mayweather clowns Ortiz, I'm sure he'll be added to Merchant's list of prefight threats/postfight pathetic opponent choice.
