Floyd shouldn't fight Cotto unless he beats a live dog. margarito doesn't count assuming Cotto wins.

To all of you that are voting yes on the poll, if Floyd ever fights Cotto and you criticize the fight I will call you out on it.

I don't know why people think I'm hating on Cotto actually I like Cotto very much and I hate that he got cheated and robbed of his prime. But when you lose and get kicked off the mountain you have to earn and climb your way back up. Ortiz was at his lowest after the Maidana defeat but still grinded and finally worked his way up by beating Berto. Cotto can earn the same shot by beating Marg, taking a tune up, and then challenging floyd or pac again. If he is shot though he won't make it competitive it will look just like Floyd vs Shane pt 2. Besides the fight would do zero for Floyd's legacy. I know for a fact every hater would say Floyd is fighting Manny's leftovers. So Floyd needs to fight Manny or somebody else on the upside.

How is beating marg and a tune up level fighter climbing up the mountain?

I agree with this post 100%. I don't know about anyone else, but when I'm talking about Mayweather vs Cotto, I'm referring to this fight happening if Cotto is able to get past Margarito and Angulo/Cintron. If he does that, then It's safe to say he is the #1 JMW or top 3 at worse.....unless Williams does something equal or better at that weight class.

No and it never did interest me.

Just my opinion but Mayweather vs De La Hoya at 154 was a much better fight for me than what Mayweather vs Cotto would have been in 2007.

I will admit that Mayweather vs Cotto would have been better than Mayweather vs Hatton, but I don't think Cotto was gonna bring 20k fans from Puerto Rico to come watch him in Las Vegas. So the Hatton fight was a bigger fight I think, and fighters are all about the bigger fights.

For example why fight Mayorga and not Cintron, Angulo, or whoever was available that was younger/better than Mayorga? Because Mayorga brought him the most money, that's why. If you're gonna call Mayweather a ducker for not fighting Cotto or Margarito in 2006-2007[ignoring the fact that they are TR fighters and Mayweather has yet to do business with Arum since leaving Top Rank after their bitter break up], then you have to call Magrarito a ducker for picking Mosley over a Williams rematch in early 2009, and Cotto a ducker for picking Mayorga over any other top 5 JMW.

With that said, yeah, now it would just be pure cherrypicking on Mayweather's part. Guys like Strugg want to see it but i'm sure he'll shit it on it as soon as it's over.

Again I think the consensus is this fight happening if Cotto is able to beating Margarito and another top guy at 154. If he does that, then why not? Floyd vs at top JMW with a huge fan base.

BTW, not saying you, but all this "left over" b.s. and shot talk is really ridiculous. All top fighters around the same weight fought the same guys.

happened with Tito and Oscar, Leonard/Hearns, Barrera/Morales and countless others. Floyd and Manny, when it's all said and done, will have fought alot of the same opponents.

I say this because, I think some are hesitant to say this is a decent fight, mainly due to Manny beating him badly first.

Well... considering he ****ing squashed Jennings like he was supposed to, that was a dumb name to use. He's been more competitive against Manny than anyone since JMM. As for Clottey he had a horrific cut and no trainer whose performance are you basing Ortiz off of? His lone MAYBE decent win vs Berto? I already stated why the Berto win wasn't even that good and Ortiz has had more life and death struggles with far lesser fighters than the ones Cotto did, nice try though.

I hope Cotto fights a top guy at 154 after marg whether he fights Floyd in the future or not. It's good for the fans.

Cotto pretty much has to come off a decent win if he wants to fight Floyd though. Floyd has only beat up guys coming off decent wins in recent years.
