zbik sucks and i was proud of hbo for rejecting him but then we found out they only rejected him so they could setup a chavez jr-zbik fight and get chavez jr an easy belt. now they have 2 "stars" in the middleweight division that they can market with a bunch of easy fights.

hbo is not on the fans side. its in their best interest to match their guys soft so they don't lose and the fans keep tuning in. if ryan rhodes beats alvarez that would be a disaster and the execs at hbo would start crying. they would throw things against the wall and scream "we should have matched him with gary lockett!"

Rhodes also hasn't really pushed for a Martinez bout. I think Rhodes beats Alvarez i think Martinez would go after him or maybe not. But, until then I won't criticize him for this.

However, the Pirog fight, is a head scratcher. You have a fellow title holder who's damn near begging for a fight. It's hard for you to get big fights. Yet you chose to ignore a unification bout? Makes no sense at all.
      thank you jro!!! //thread!!

        Why would that be?
        I see your point.

Personally, I think that Pirog is very green, and I'm not too sure if that fight would be all that competitive..... but Sergio needs a dance partner, Team Pirog are screaming for it, and the kid is a titlist.

I mean, calling Martinez a ducker is kinda silly, and it is unlikely that Pirog will give him too many problems..... but it is starting to look like they have developed an allergy to Pirog or something.

I felt exactly the same about way about Ortiz / Pac.

You factor in Pac's recent/upcoming opponents, the fact that he has recently fought guys who were way less qualified than Ortiz, and it looks like the exact same situation to me.

You fight Williams, Cintron, Dzinzuruk, call out Angulo when you were at 154, Cotto, want the best..But you're gonna call this guy a ducker for not wanting to fight a guy with...18 fights, and...1 decent win.

          Please.
Martinez has less than two years left in the game.

          He wants MONEY !!!

Pirog might be very green. But, what does that make Barker?

Pirog has experience than what Barker has.

I'm just baffled by the Barker move. Especially when you have Pirog out there who by all accounts is damn near a guarantee win.

            It's quite weird.

"How can it be a duck when he has 50 fights and the other guy has 18?"

WTF is that? That's not a valid point, it's just random.
That is a valid point. Martinez has all but cleaned out the best in the division, why would he duck a green kid who is not on his level?

He does and he deserves it. But, Barker doesn't bring in money. Not even more money than Pirog.

                So this move is baffling.

Why fight even a "greener kid" who's not even ranked nor on his level?

We can all agree that Martinez has fought better guys than Pirog. We can also agree that Martinez wants to fight better fighters than Pirog EX Floyd and Pac.

He's willing to fight anybody from 154-160. Good fighters and/or big names like Floyd, Pac, Cotto, P-Will, Angulo, Dzinziruk. He's willing to even fight no names and/or inferior fighters like Zbik, Barker, Manfredo, Lee.

But, yet he doesn't have the same attitude when it comes to Pirog.

Lets act like we got some damn sense for a second. Not be childish. I'm not saying he's ducking Pirog so no need to get so defensive. But, can anybody answer me at 154-160 he proven to be willing to fight all these guys. But, when it comes to Pirog he doesn't seem as eager. Why is that?
Good points, but I am not sure if I fully agree with this.....

I wish I knew if you were correct.

Is Barker inferior to Pirog ?

Is Manfredo inferior to Pirog ?

Is Zbik inferior to Pirog ?

I have seen absolutely nothing to convince me that is the case.

Manfredo and Barker are exactly who Pirog should be fighting.
