I started watching boxing a little over 30 years ago. I get the point of learning the sport's finer points but this is their job: to know what they are talking about, who Victor Ortiz, his history not only past but most recent and it's significance. When interviewing a fighter, manager, promoter, or speaking about a fight, I always research as thoroughly as possible in the time I am given. I don't buy that a person paid to be on a professional sports TV show can play the ignorance card.
Jim Rome just ripped Floyd on ESPN

I kind of agree, but I also think it would be a pretty big waste of time for sports networks to make all of their employees that are on camera learn the ins and outs of boxing, since it is a topic that gets so little coverage, even on networks that exclusively cover sports. To be fair though, it would have been nice for idiots like Cornheiser and Rome to take the initiative to schedule a brief meeting with Dan Rafael so they could run what they were going to say by him to make sure that they weren't saying anything incorrect or outlandish.I started watching boxing a little over 30 years ago. If I got that recorded on my DVR, it would never ever get deleted... ever.Comment

I see your point but it's not like finding out who Ortiz is would be hard. His last fight was a FOTY candidate and one where he showed heart, grit and a dangerous skill set (including being a southpaw like the guy they want Floyd to face). A simple google search could have told them that.I kind of agree, but I also think it would be a pretty big waste of time for sports networks to make all of their employees that are on camera learn the ins and outs of boxing, since it is a topic that gets so little coverage, even on networks that exclusively cover sports. I think it just shows, like you said, how little the mainstream media cares about us.Comment

It's funny how ESPN is only the largest, oldest, and most well respected sports network in the world that has all the finest sports analysts in the world. But their opinions don't sit well with some knownothing ***** and suddenly they don't know anything about boxing.
That Figures LOL!!!!Last edited by pistol whip; 06-09-2011, 04:21 PM.Comment
