I agree that when it is all said and done the difference between what Ortiz will make compared to Mayweather will be vast. But there are a couple of things to keep in mind: First, Mayweather is the draw by far in this fight. All of my friends who are non-boxing fans know who Mayweather is. On the other hand you have to be a pretty serious fan to know Ortiz. The second thing to keep in mind is that no one is making him fight Mayweather. If he thought the money was unfair then he could have fought someone else. But he obviously liked the terms enough to sign the contract, so who are we to say that he is getting screwed? If he is happy, so be it.

$40m to $3.5m. I am not siding with anyone but the disparity (x11) is high enough to warrant some criticism

that is a lot of money for a young fighter, I seriously doubt Ortiz will complain, win or lose he will go on to make a lot more in the future

Ortiz made 400k his last fight (which was with the WBC Welterweight Champion)
Ortiz is making 4x more $ this fight than his previous fight.
Ortiz has never headlined a ppv fight.
Mayweather was part of the biggest ppv fight of all time (2.5 million)
Floyd generates more money (sheer numbers) and has earned hundreds of millions more in his career than Ortiz.
It astounds me that people who post on this boxing forum do not understand the basic mathematics of boxing.

Dude the guy who could very well make around ~5 mill when its all done, that's by far the biggest payday and you're complaining? Compare his payday against Berto and Peterson. One thing I know is Ortiz is over the moon over the pay day.
