Sergio "Maravilla" Martinez continues to press for a fall showdown with the new WBC middleweight champion, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. The young Mexican was crowned last Saturday at Staples Center in Los Angeles, winning a twelve round decision against German boxer Sebastian Zbik. The two boxers were fighting for a belt that Martinez lost, but not in the ring. Martinez dropped the title when the WBC tried to force his hand in defending against Zbik. American cable network HBO refused to approve Zbik as an opponent for Martinez and would only approve Paul Williams.
