Basically. I wouldn't even characterize Hatton as an inside-fighter. Just a mauler, basically.

it might not be the 'trademark' phonebooth style with digging hooks and shoulder maneuvering that we're accustomed to, but it doesn't seem to be the best thing to do against him

but for the sake of continuity, i'll go along with everyone here and say that he sucks and can't fight that game
That's the point. People trying to get on the inside of Pac like Hatton, Margarito and Diaz are the best thing for Pac because he step backward into midrange with his incredible footspeed whilst they move forward and beat the living piss out of them with his insane handspeed, angles and superior skills to them. He doesn't even need to make a single adjustment just keep doing that because it works.

That still doesn't make Pac a good inside fighter though. Infact, it kind of highlights that he isn't one. Whether or not he CAN fight inside I guess we don't know because no one has forced him to fight inside because his style is so perfect for that style. Even the likes of an immesnly skilled Barrera got destroyed when he tried to get inside, which tells a big story about how skilled Pac actually is.

Most of the time inside fighters like that is the perfect style for Pac to obliterate. Guys like Duran however, with an excellent inside game and great defense would be alot more of a task. And I can't see Pac stopping Duran from getting inside so maybe then we could have found out how good Pac's inside game is.

Yes he can....... He isn't an inside fighter who is going to bury his head in the other mans chest and start throwing hooks to the body and mixing in an occasional uppercut, but he also going to clinch as soon as he or his opponent gets inside......

He is like 90% of the fighters that don't fall into those categories, he has the ability to fight inside and uses it when it suits him best. He is actually a pretty good inside fighter (though in some serious exchanges with Marquez and Morales he was the one swinging wider, but they are better inside fighters) but he is better at jumping in with quick exchanges and getting back out and standing in mid-range where his faster hands give him the advantage.

remove jlc. as far as the ppl u named, i dont see any of them as being real infighters. theres a difference between truly fighting inside and in the pocket and being a pressure fighter who bullies his way on the inside.

modern day infighters are guys like floyd/ward/hop. excellent defense and offense on the inside. older infighters, guys like jcc and marvin hagler roberto duran. next to these level of infighters names like rios/margarito is basically ****.

No surprise JLC is a student of JCC.
Roberto Duran rapidly springs to mind.

Most of the inside fighting I see in boxing is when both fighters are tired or exhausted. It will be very hard for an opponent to bait Pacquiao to do inside fighting.

Its mostly chalked up to people not understanding inside fighting, only recently have people really recognised Floyd in that aspect.

great points...i guess the only thing im saying is that good/great inside fighters are few and far between...you'd have to look at past greats or higher weight fighters...there aren't that many good ones at the lower weights that could apply an effective inside attack against him...im not saying he's a great inside fighter himself because he hasn't been forced to show the ability...i guess all you could say is that he handles that inside pressure well with his own adjustments

lol i see a lot of answers is a no. the question is very simple...can manny fight in the inside? it didn't ask whether pac is an inside fighter or not.

again...can he fight in the inside? of course he can if he want to. now is he going to be effective? probably not because he didn't apply such style in his fights.

bottomline is...any fighter can't be good at everything. imagine if pac is a good inside fighter in addition to the weapons he already has? he'll be required to undergo an alien test.
