He can't, you get close to him and he just covers up.

He's mediocre on the inside. That part of his game has hardly improved.

No he can not. Every time a fighter tries to make it an inside fight, he clinches and stares at the ref to come and break it up. Manny needs space to do what he does. Ricky Hatton tried to bully Pacquiao but Pacquiao did not like that, he always stared at the ref to get Hatton off him. Margarito is also an inside fighter who was not allowed to really fight inside but that was not Pac's fault, Margarito just couldn't get inside like he did with Cotto. Mosley and Pac really kept Margarito at bay on their own, but alot of times little Pacquiao needs help to get fighters off of him.

he can't fight on the inside or going backwards, i've never seem him do either.
he fights mid range and darts in and out. the weigh of the guys at welterweight would tire him out, he already fights in spurts because of his punch output being so high.

i've been saying for a good while now, that not enough fighters try and make pacquiao fight on the inside....

if you notice, ALL of pacquiao's recent fights have been fought on the outside, and ALL FIGHT ACTION STOPS ONCE THEY GET INSIDE AND IN ANY CLINCH.

i have no idea why, but no one, other than marquez, really presses the action with pacquiao.

I was just watching the pac vs mosley fight the other day with my nephew and i was saying the same thing, there were so many opportunities to be had on the inside, at least there shane could've landed a shot or two, but he didn't do anything, and PACQUIAO ALWAYS LOOKS AND WAITS FOR THE REF TO SEPARATE THEM, i have no clue why????

i for the life of me, could not let an opportunity slip by on hitting my opponent, not in sparring, a real fight, or in sport, i think that is why i have such an affinity towards aaron pryor, johnny tapia, and even hopkins, guys that try and take every opening they can on the inside or in any lull in the action.

if pacquiao did fight like that though, he'd probably be taking everyone out sooner, but also, pacquiao with his style, the in and out style, angles, and machine gun punching, that is his defense too, because pacquiao isnt a classic boxer or a defensive fighter, he's an assault fighter and that leaves him open, movement is what allows him to be as safe as he can be in the ring........

just watch though, other than the marquez fights, pacquiao waits for the ref to separate him and his opponent from one another, and the odd thing is, the opponents DO THE SAME THING, THEY WAIT TOO!!!! WTF.

like margarito, an inside fight would've benefited him, pinning pacquiao in the corner or ropes, whatever, but mauling him would've been better for his fight game than to try and fight him at a distance like he did, getting picked apart and sniper'd all fight long before the heavy artillery started being dropped on him......

i find it weird that NOT ONE OF PACQUIAO'S RECENT OPPONENTS HAVE PUSHED FOR ANY INSIDE FIGHTING......... WTF?????

Margarito tried to make PAC fight an inside game, he might not box anymore

David Diaz tried to make PAC fight an inside game, he thought Freddy was in there helping PAC

Hatton tried to make PAC fight an inside game, he got retired

it might not be the 'trademark' phonebooth style with digging hooks and shoulder maneuvering that we're accustomed to, but it doesn't seem to be the best thing to do against him

but for the sake of continuity, i'll go along with everyone here and say that he sucks and can't fight that game

He can't. He can, however, catch you coming in - as he did to those three repeatedly as they tried to get inside.

Can't find it now but there is an interview where Pac/Roach talk about his inside fighting and Pac basically says you have to keep that half a step back for there to be any power otherwise you smother your own punches. Pac's inside fighting game is his ability to negate the inside and keep things mid-range. He's fought some pretty good inside fighters and they were unsuccessful.

Does he fight inside? Not really. Does he know how to handle inside fighters? I'd say he does.

I think this post covers it. I tend to agree, although most of the fighters who've attempted to go inside have the defensive prowess of...well, of Antonio Margarito, Ricky Hatton, etc.
