Here is a prime example of the piece of **** he is...

Having bias toward contemporary writers is bad! Doug is a historian and writes entirely different articles than you read in his mailbags. Those are asking for his personal opinion, his professional opinion is in his real articles.

His voice is annoying as hell, I'll give u that. His writing is very good, he's a historian and knows a lot about the sport. Plus he gives a lot of insight into the gym scene here in the states.

Ruben, true or false, there were more African Americans that the public pervieved as warriors in boxing 25 years ago than there are today?

True or false? There are more top African American fighters 25 yrs ago than there are today?

Doug frequently makes fun of himself. Most pretentious people don't do that. Ruben, if you had to do a mailbag 2x a week for over a decade, you'd be verbally smacking people around too. His articles Are always professional.
Ahhhh, ok. Does he critisize Floyd Mayweather or something? I wouldn't know, I don't listen to anything or read anything he says or writes, literally.

He may have been around the sport a while, then again so has Al Bernstein and Bert Sugar. And for people to be around the sport for so long they are suprisingly and incredibly unlegit historians.

They get the same amount of credit from me; Not much.

You know I can never tell whether your serious or not Walt

Ruben, true or false, there were more African Americans that the public pervieved as warriors in boxing 25 years ago than there are today?
Public perception was never mentioned and is irrelevant, I find the comments offensive and not professional whatsoever, do you not see anything wrong with it? Just skimmed through a little but it looked like Caliloyd made some good points in the thread.

True or false? There are more top African American fighters 25 yrs ago than there are today?
        True, but again thats irrelevant.

I said his writing was pretentious, I find he makes things out to be more than what they are in a smug way, thus I find it pretentious.

Doug Fischer is like any other writer, sometimes he has a point and he is not entirely unknowledgeable on the sport but he isn't very good either.

I used to read him solely because I disagreed with him now I don't even need to read him because I know what he will write just based on the topic.

That kind of predictability is not something I value from a writer or any talking head for that matter.

U have to take in mind boxing is one of only a few sports where u can be THE MOST DOMINATE GUY AROUND, and still be boring. I mean, there's no way Kobe or Jordan will bore u (unless ur not a basketball fan)... However, Anderson Silva will bore u while he makes his opponent look like a ******. And Floyd can bore u while he makes his opponent quit without them realizing it

So, point is, if u bring in the fans in boxing, u r place at a different pedestal than guys that r actually ELITE boxers. Thats one of the reasons Manny Pacquiao gets so much credit. He is the top fighter in the sport, as well as one of the most exciting in the sport. That got him an ATG spot

The hall of fame should have 2 sections. The guys that belong there becuz of their elite skill and ability, as well as accomplishments. And the guys that belong there simply becuz of their ability to reel in fans

I've read his articles and he still naturally lets out personal opinion and bias in ones I've read, though I don't doubt that a lot of them have good information, it doesn't make him a good writer.

I hear you in some respects, but I never get offended by what people write unless it's a personal attack on me. I'm just not sensitive in that way, I may for an opinion that said person is ignorant and make a mental nite, but not offended.

I guess we just see different things, wouldn't be the first time we disagreed lol! Not the first time we agreed.

And I'm joking/poking fun about 99% of the time. You'd know if I wasn't and I take ya'll as respectable posters so that number holds true. I'm not like some of those SNOBS in the history section.

The Boxing HOF should be made prestigious, only one section, and that's only elite fighters.

When you talk about a baseball, basketball, football Hall of Famer, you're seriously talking about one of the best players to ever play in that sport. For boxing, that's not the case. Fernando Vargas? Miguel Cotto? These are not 2 of the best boxers in the history of the sport.
