What people just can't seem to grasp about the IBHOF

Here is an excerpt from Doug Fisher...someone who actually gets a vote, and an actual respected boxing journalist talking about the reasons Vargas will get into the HOF.

This is not whether people should get in based on resume...this is the REALITY of it.

"Vargas will get into the HOF for two reasons, neither of which have anything to do with his ring accomplishments: he was popular and usually entertaining. However, El Feroz’s skill, which earned him a decision over the still-dangerous Ike Quartey in 2000 (just one year after “Bazooka” gave Oscar De La Hoya all he could handle), and heart, which enabled him to outwork Winky Wright in a close fight, cannot be denied. His losses to Felix Trinidad and De La Hoya won’t be held against him because A) those two rivals are first ballot HOFers, and B) those fights (and their promotional build up) were f__king awesome!

Feroz was a major reason that the late 1990s and early part of the 2000s was a fun time to be a boxing fan, and for that, he will get a checkmark from Yours Truly whenever I see his name on the ballot. I know he’ll be inducted. All fan favorites are. "

This should put an end to the ****** debates I see on here on who will make it in and who won't.

True if you got a story you will likely get in, it may take a couple tries if a guy doesn't have the greatest accomplishments but over time they will get overlooked if you got a good story and some memorable fights.

Sly is not getting in as a fighter he is getting in as a contributor which it is hard to argue he did not contribute a lot with Rocky.

Other sports let in broadcasters, writers, coaches, executives and other contributors that didn't play so I don't see how that applies to fighters.

Different fields but still related to boxing.

he's not making it as a fighter though, as there are a number of non-fighters in the boxing hall of fame (writers, photographers, announcers, etc.).

Stallone was a HUGE ambassador to the sport, and he probably created more boxers than just about any real fighter. To this day I still hear about a pro fighter talk about how they first went to a boxing gym after being inspired by the film(s).

I don't think people are wondering if Marquez will get in, he WILL get in.

People are wondering if Cotto deserves to get in.

But as I have said before, the IBHOF is a joke compared to other sports HOF. It's not respectable, that's too bad, because there are a lot of HOF'ers which actually belong in something called a Hall Of Fame. But until the IBHOF becomes organized and there are actually certain amount of wins you need, or certain amount of times you need to defend a title, or if you stay in one weight class for your whole career, how many top 10 guys you fight. Until then, the IBHOF is a joke and any one who laces them up can get in.
