He was good, maybe great. But he was no prime Jones.

BTW I am an American but I can appreciate Joe's talent.
Yea I loved how Calzaghe would go ape **** when he got hurt. That is how I invision myself being if I had been a pro boxer. Getting hit just makes me madder and more focused.

Apart from his slapping, Calzaghe was a great fighter for his weight. People give him shit cause he's not from this part of the world.

Calzaghe never got enough credit because he didn't earn any credit.

Yeah he held the belt for 10 years but it was against a bunch of nobodies. Doing what Joe did is equivalent to Ward/Abraham/Dirrell/Hopkins/almost any boxer fighting against guys like Pudwill, Buchanan etc. for those 10 years.

It wasn't because he didn't come to the US, it was because of the amount of scrubs that made up his resume. He beat a highly overrated Lacy, Kessler, a shot RJJ, and an old ass Hopkins were his best wins out of 46 fights.

Joe definitely wasted a lot of time he could have been a world beater but you are nuts if you think he didn't earn any respect. The guy was amazing. He held titles and defended them for ten years undefeated, that says something. Even if the challengers were only mandatories most of the time.

People get very angry that fighters don't fight every single fighter they want them to and they project that through hating, anyone who says Calzaghe "******" or is a "bum" it is clear to see knows nothing about boxing.

I think he'll get the Lewis treatment in a few years time with people saying how great he was after a lot of the little kiddie haters have died down.

Imagine Abraham/Taylor/Kessler in Calzaghe's place. They're all undefeated, they remain undefeated by continuing to beat the same level of fighters that they beat to become undefeated in the first place. It's towards the end of their careers, so they decide to finally step up their competition. They fight and beat someone like an overrated Lacy, a shot Andre Ward, someone like Kessler, and some other old fighter. Then their fans go on about how they were ATG's because they defended the belt for 10 years and they didn't get enough credit etc.

But of course they didn't take that road, they took the tough road and fought tough fighters in their primes and lost.

That's how I view the whole Calzaghe situation. Guys like Ward, Kessler Abraham, etc. all fought against the best to try to become the best.

There was one documentary, I think HBO 24/7 (vs Jones?), where Calzaghe works on the speed bag and it was a pretty awesome sight to behold the way they showed it in normal speed then slow motion.

You get a Lineal Title for fighting the best right? I wonder how it magically appeared on Calzaghe.

Joe's style is really impossible to beat at Supermiddleweight. Your not winning a decision against a guy who dishes 6 punches at a time.
