  • Cotto Has Always Been Overrated...

    & this weekend proved it.
It's very nice that he showed an incredible amount of heart this weekend.

But....we're being told that this is the next GREAT fighter, & frankly....I don't see it. He should be mowing guys like Torres, big puncher or not, right down. It's not like Torres hit him once & hurt him....he REPEATEDLY laid heavy leather on this "technically brilliant" young fighter. I'm telling you now, Cotto is not the next Felix Trinidad. Tito was always far better than Cotto will ever be.

It's not his chin that's gonna do him in...it is his ROBOTIC STYLE. It's the way he fights that will see him EASILY beaten by the upper echelon of either the 140 or 147lb. class.
He just is too slow to get off. He has zero fluidity....everything, every punch/combo looks like it's been planned/thought out. This is fine, when you're not facing the best. But, when he faces someone like Floyd (right now a total MISMATCH), Htton, or Tszyu....I truly beleive you will see him handled with shocking ease.

I am not a "hater" of Cotto. I just have never been that impressed with him.

I dont think he is as good as Hatton or Mayweather. But you have to remember that he is not the most experienced of fighters and give credit to his opponent, Torres, For his game performance. Fights like this where you really have to struggle can improve a fighter. Just you want to get beat like that too often. If the 140 pound weight class was not so deep Torres would probably be Champion. Came close to being champion on Saturday. Just goes to show really that 140 pound weight class is the one to watch. Torres vs Carlos Maussa would interesting fight.

I always thought he fights too much on thought, not enough on instinct & that's why he'd never beat the TOP guys.

even against abdullaev......i saw no good in that fight, even though the judges somehow had it different......not that it was required.....

i was only impressed with him once, and that was against randall bailey....

i agree with the robotic style , but i think what he really needs to do is go to 147 , he is obviously not able to make 140 without hurting himslef , and use UPPER BODY MOVEMENT for god sake , he keeps his hands high well but it s not enough , henedds to find angles and not block punches all the time , he wont block them all at the elite level .

It was great fight but I agree with most of the comments made here. I even think there should be a rematch bewteen him and Torres.

I mean everyone says how Cotto stole the show, which is partially right but man come on Torres took the fight on short notice. What would have happened if he had trained well for this fight?

Thats what I was thinking. If he had a proper training camp. Built specifically to beat Cotto I think he would have won the fight. I dont think Cotto or his management want any more of Torres though. Cotto took some brainbashing in that fight. Torres might be one of those fighters who joins the list now that everybody avoids. I would like to see him fight Maussa though as I stated before. I hope he regains #1 contender status again with the WBA WBC..see him again after a proper training camp against another champ or top tier fighter like Vivian Harris.

I was impressed by the torres that boy can hit!!!! to tell you the truth I've been wanting cotto to win so he can step up to 147 and fight margarito, after what I seen this weekend I'm positive that margarito would run over cotto just like he did cintron!!! but still it would be an exciting fight!
