Same exact thing here. Italian kid growing up in a no longer Italian neighborhood in Queens my dad taught me how to fight from about age 7, and his dad taught him to fight before that. First fight I ever watched was Lewis vs. Klitschko and I always had an appreciation for fighting but didn't watch it much after that. In high school I got back into it because I moved out of Queens and found myself bored and then when I got here to Fordham I started following it big time. Found a gym nearby and StarBoxing is run out of the Bronx and Joe DeGuardia was nice enough to give me an internship so I'm actually thinking about going into the business, but who knows.Plus, as it turns out I'm very good friends with Amir Khan's cousin, so I pull for him big time.
Oddly enough my dad's been fighting since the late 60s and he never went to a pro fight, so for Christmas I got me and him tickets to Martinez-Dzinziruk and it was each of our first fights, really, really cool. Then I dragged his ass to Golden Gloves in April

Stepped into a boxing gym, it's been all love ever since. Boxing gets in the blood.

Why no *******s in this thread? I see plenty of people who actually box/have boxed though.

My dad always watched and I would sit with him, can't even remember when I became a hardcore fan cause boxing was always present. I guess my first real big fight that I wanted to see was Duran/Leonard 1 and it impressed me so much I stood hooked.

Those days of boxing on free TV are almost gone

My dad missed my birth becasue he was watching Ali Frazier III, so it came from there. I grew up hearing about
Ali and then watched Benn, Eubank etc as a kid in England.

My dad was a fighter since he was about 5 or 6. He had a very good amateur career here in St. Louis and boxing used to be real big here (not as much now). When I was a little boy, he had me in the gym with him when he trained. I used to hit the heavy bag, shadow box and do all that good stuff at about 3 or 4 years old. Since then, I've loved the sport. I really wanted to box but when I turned about 5 or 6, he put me in other sports. Football was the one that I was the best at. But I have two sons now and I can't wait to get them in the gym!

Come to think of it, I think I was actually into boxing BEFORE Tyson got out of jail. I was looking through this thread, and it triggered a memory of me buying a RING Magazine with Oscar De La Hoya on the cover. That was when I was like 8 in 1994.

                  AH.

                  It was actually 1995:

Sweet memories. Nothing gets me riled up like boxing. Nothing.
