No he didn't. Manny never fought at 154lbs, making his claim of 8 world titles in 8 different weight divisions completely bogus. The fight took place at 150lbs. Therefore, no title should have been on the line, IMO.

Same with the Cotto fight. If the fight is for a world title, you fight at that weight limit, no if and or buts.

His last true challenge was against Cotto, but Cotto was ruined after the Margarito fight.

It's very simple economics here: Both Floyd and Manny don't want to fight him, because they'll make no money fighting him, and risk losing. They'll get little recognition if they beat Martinez, and most likely amongst hardcore boxing fans.

It really doesn't do much for Floyd or Manny even if they DO beat Martinez. I mean really, what's it gonna' do for their respective careers? Push them to the top of the p4p lists, which they are already on top of?

And it's not going to make them rich, either.

Yes, that is correct. Catchweights devalue titles. Why even have championships in weight divisions, if the weight limits aren't going to be enforced?

I hear your point of view. From a FAN'S perspective it's a very lucrative fight. But it would take a truckload of money to get either Floyd or Manny in the ring with Sergio. I'm talking like $30-$35million minimum.

For status' sake, yes a win over Martinez would mean a lot to either man. But a loss puts a serious dent in their marketing value, even if it is to a MW. A casual boxing fans puts a lot of stock into wins and losses.
