On the TV azteca broadcast, Chavez and Barrera were commentating, both were nuts the last 3 rounds, especially Chavez, they did an interview after the fight and Arce say to them: "you 2 guys are my heros, I always wanted to be like you, even if I don't have the technique like you guys, I hope I showed the heart of a warrior like you 2" it was pretty awesome

Plus, he won the title off someone who wasn't ranked in the Top 10 at 112 and of those 4 title defences only 2 of the fihgters were in the top 10 and in the latter at that.

He had decent title defences, at best. But that still doesn't change the fact he isn't holder a mjaor title, not even a paper one.
That title defence by David Haye was pathetic and boaderline shouldn't count as a title defence.Comment

Has only won 3. Interim belts dont count if the champion is fighting and defending his tittle. But that doesnt mean its not a great feat he entered a group of great fighters who have done the same chavez marquez barrera morales and montiel. War arceOriginally posted by Freedom. View PostComment

Let's pay tribute to another true Mexican warrior - Jorge Arce
In a follow-up to the thread I made in tribute of the courage,bravery and true Mexican grit that Antonio Margarito showed in defeat last November,today I would like to pay tribute to another fighter that showed the same courage,same bravery and same Mexican grit that not only carried him to victory tonight,but has defined his entire career.
I must admit,I didn't like Arce's chances.Not that I rated vazquez particularly highly,but because I was(still am) convinced that Arce is in the twilight of his career and been on a steady decline over the last couple of years.If Mijares didn't finish him,I was certain that Darchinyan most definitely had in their thoroughly one-sided fight.And a fifteen year professional,with his style,several weight classes above his prime weight - it didn't look good on paper.
His Mexican warrior spirit willed him to victory tonight/early morning.He was obviously the slower man in there,and he was as tired and exhausted as Vazquez was by the eleventh round - but it was his sheer determination and love for his country that spured him on and pushed forward into the the late rally that we saw.You could see that his punches lacked the genuine force of the earlier rounds,but he sensed victory,and he would not stop punching until he claimed it.
Those last two rounds were a special thing to witness.Arce isn't necessarily a great fighter,but only a fool would claim that he isn't special.It's men like him and Antonio Margarito that make me proud to be a fan of the sport of boxing,and it's men like him and Antonio that separate this sport from all others.Last edited by prinzemanspopa; 05-08-2011, 12:40 PM.Comment

Was I the only person besides Robert Hoyle (I think) who had Arce up big at the end? It seemed his punches did more damage so I was giving him the close rounds...Comment

I thought the SKY commentators did a much better job that Bernstein and the other Showtime commentators.
They were OBJECTIVE and suggested that Cortez should stop the fight a few seconds before the corner threw in the towel, because Vasquez was getting tagged a lot and it was obvious he was getting hurt.
But Al Bernstein questioned and b1tched about the decision by WV2's corner. Obviously he wanted the young Top Rank fighter to win. Bernstein seems to be mentally unable to call a fight objectively, without favoring one fighter over another.Comment

That was an amazing fight. From the 10th on Arce had NOTHING left in the tank, yet he summoned up to willpower to not only win the rounds, but finish the tough young kid when he had him hurt in the 12th.
Arce and Vasquez Jr. both deserve a ton of respect for giving us everything they had last night, unlike the clowns in the main event.
They should have a rematch on the undercard of Pac/Marquez.Comment
