If Haye beats a Klitschko he is bigger than Hatton.

        Automatically.

A proper British Heavyweight Champ - he'd be huge.

that should be true, but im not so sure.

Boxing isnt very popular, and few people care about the HW division. Hatton had a large following because he was a manchester lad, and they loved him even after he lost to Floyd. If Haye loses, he wont have any fan base. Especially if he retires in October.
Hatton was very popular for years.

I dont think Haye will ever be as popular as Hatton was. Even if he achieves more in boxing.

Khan and Haye would be more popular if they were white, but thats not the main reason they will never be as big as Hatton.
Hatton was always very likable, exciting and down to earth. And Manchester fans can be fanatical.

If Hamed was around now he wouldnt be as popular as he was because times have changed, boxing isnt as popular and if he was preaching Islam many more people would really hate him.

This country will never allow coloured folks to prosper unless they act white (i.e Lenny Henry, Ainsley Harriot)
Bruno was an uncle Tom so how does that add up

Nigel Benn, Chris Eubank and Frank Bruno were all popular non-white fighters. Khan and Haye's relative unpopularity has nothing to do with the colour of their skin. It is probably more to do with their decision to show all of their fights on pay-per-view, even those against sub-standard opposition. Benn, Eubank and Bruno were all popular at a time when their fights were shown on the terrestrial TV.

This **** right here. Even from America, the hype behind this kid in the UK was undeniable.

I think we can't deny that there is a race element to it but the majority of Hatton's fans are football fanatics who crossed over. If Hatton wasn't into football he would have struggled to generate that fanbase IMO. On the other hand though, Hatton's also a natural comedian which helped make more fans, so his personality (or public persona, whichever way you look at it) helped him along the way too..

Khan and Haye actually have a lot of non-boxing enthusiast fans too, like Hatton, but I guess for different reasons.

I mean to be fair, not many other white boxers had the same following as Hatton. It's not like Joe Calzaghe, Carl Froch, George Groves, Nathan Cleverly, Enzo Mac, Tyson Fury have a ridiculously large fanbase because they're white. Hatton is kind of a special case and so some of the posts are kind of right, he does receive special treatment from the media as a result, perhaps unjustifiably.
