Can't ever question that. ****** with the bigger bhop til he got dropped and still got up but smogger stopped it. He never let up vs winky either. He just got jabbed to death. Lol even though he was getting ouboxed by oscar and looked suspect, one punch could have changed it. Something like khan vs maidana. Chino was losing til that right landed and he almost got a ko and tightened up the scorecards cuz khan lost rds 10, 11 and 12.
I agree with you 100% he also faced vargas when oscar wouldnt and a david reid people thought was the next roy jones jr. My point is that its crazy how casual boxing fans who think they are die hard fans swear they know what they be talking about when they say no doubt tito was the best. Tito got 49% votes on that showtime poll. Then again people who watched gomez in his time dont text too much. I got every gomez, tito, cotto, and benitez fight on dvd and fight now I got them in gomez benitez, and maybe cotto then tito. I think after cotto beat margo if top ranks lets him fight younger fighters out of top rank and he wins I put cotto third. I feel he can beat angulo, alverez, cintron and berto even before ortiz did.

It hard to say, all depends on your perspective.
              IMHO Boxers from PR:
              1. Best puncher: Gomez with Tito very close
              2. Defensive: No doubt my favorite PR boxer of all time Wilfredo "El Radar" Benitez (youngest world champion @ age of 17)
              3. All around: No doubt Carlos Ortiz (he could box, brawl, was really smart)

Those 4 boxers are the best coming out of my beautiful Island!!!

On the Mexico & PR rivalry:
Mexico had, have and will have great fighters. There's no shame in loosing to 1 of the ATG like Salvador Sanchez, that guy was a beast and had the best of Gomez. Now SS was a 126 lbs 5'7" w/ 67' reach with great movement and really busy and smart fighter w/ a punch, had the full package. To me the 2nd best fighter coming out of Mexico. Ricardo "Finito" Lopez is my 2nd favorite fighter of all time and the #1 fighter of all times. Mexico got names like Lopez, Sanchez, Barrera, Morales, Pinto, Zarate, Chavez and now young guns coming up you Mexican should be proud!!!

Now we Boricuas also had, have and will great fighters and we are proud of them too!!! Gomez lost to SS but beat the crap out of many Mexicans.

By diminishing our fighters you're diminishing accomplishments of a few times you guys beat us!!! jk!!! it's all good!!! The record that I cared the most is mine which was 7-0 w/5 kos vs Mexicans when I did fight, so w/ me it's all good!!!

I just want to say this in advance before saturdays fight. I have studied wilfredo vazquez jrs style and fights. That including his background and personality I feel he will be the next great figher in boxing and make it to best p4p in the world. Not a great boricua boxer a great boxer period. For those of you who dont know hes the only fighter to ever win a title without a amateur. When he decided that he had to quit law school to put food on the table for his wife and kids and told his dad he wanted to be a boxer his dad made him run for a year and a half before he even let him spar. He is a humble god fearing man who wont get caught up in the lime light the way most boxers who come from nothing do. Gomez and juanma being two boricua examples.

Agree, ppl just love KO's and unfortunately that is what is remembered more. I think Benitez was the best fighter out of Puerto Rico.

Similar to how Mexicans think JCC is the greatest Mexican fighter, where he was just the most popular, and Salvador Sanchez was actually the best Mexican fighter.

                    Bottom line:

Gomez was the smaller guy... It took a Mexican from a higher weight class to beat my boy Gomez. Add to that, everyone who knew Gomez said he took the Sanchez fight too lightly. A rematch would have been great had Sanchez not taken the easy route and slammed into a tree. Then again, when your drunk at lunchtime... ****!

I just had to add one thing to your post. I agree sanchez was the best mexican fighter ever. However in regards to the gomez fight. Gomez never made excuses he called sanchez his brother and liked him very much. He said he will get his rematch in heaven. Now what he also said which is the truth is that he was just married and was getting drunk on a cruise a week before the fight which considering the move up in weight also might have played a part in his lost. He had already beat a mexican who was 55-0 with 54kos so i dont doubt he wasnt 100% focus. With that said i take nothing away from sanchez he was a great fighter just sad he died b4 his time.
