Think it's safe to say those that know Floyd know Pacquiao, for obvious reasons too

Are we talking about INTERNATIONAL superstars?

Trust me, the majority of the people in the UK do not have a CLUE who Kobe Bryant, Tom Brady, Lebron James or Derek Jeter are. Sure, some will say the names are familiar but not a great deal.

If you said "Oscar De La Hoya" to the average person in England then you'd get 99% blank stares.

The HIGH majority of people wouldn't even have a clue who Floyd or Manny were if they didn't fight Hatton.

International superstars? Eminem, Beyonce,Tyson, MJ, Ali, Jordan, Tiger etc etc.

To clarify, her hometown is Grand rapids, Michigan, same as Floyd and his dad, and yet she never heard of him...makes u wonder...
Yeah but if you walk into a gay bar and ask if anybody knows Floyd Mayweather not only would all 20 know him. They would probably get him out of the bathroom for you.

PBF may be a superstar in the Boxing Community - But that does transcend across the globe as a household name.
That's the way it should be categorized.

            Boxing Superstar.

Wrestling Superstar - A Main Event guy in WWE is a Wrestling Superstar and if you watch fake Wrestling, you know him.

Also this is pretty explainable. Floyd is a Pay-Per-View Star, on average, a little over a million people got to see him at his most popular (Vs Delahoya, Vs Hatton, Vs Marquez). His Boxing activity is isolated from the rest of the world.

You can't be a Superstar on a Global level if your sport is reduced to paying to see you perform on Television. The only time Floyd got a whiff of 10 million viewers watching him at the same time, was Dancing with the Stars.

Sidenote: Prince William & Princess Kate were probably nothing more than "Stars" in the Unites States (a place of 300 million populace). Now that the Royal Wedding has been shoved down our throats on every News Channel possible, they're on Super Star level. It's all about exposure.

It's hard to believe all 2O knew Enrique and Jeter, especially Enrique. I bet they all could tell you Enriques songs and Jesters batting average and position. No way in hell is Enrique more popular than Mayweather here in the states

Actually, since basketball is really growing as an international sport Kobe and Lebron are REALLY big stars overseas. During the Olympics in 2008 they were as popular in China as they are here in the United States.
