I assume you mean people think "Goodfellas" ranks with the first two "Godfather" movies as best mob films, because that's where the comparison ends. lol "Godfather" I & II are among the greatest movies ever made. As I said before, I love "Goodfellas," but it's just not in the Coppola films' league.

Well I've seen both, both as top mob movie and some people just think it was a great movie period. I didn't say I agree on either count. But certainly great entertainment. Of course there is the issue of fact vs fiction. Godfather was not really based on any one mobster I think. Whereas Goodfellas was "loosely based" on Henry Hill's bio.

        You don't think so?

I think Goodfellas is a phenomenal film! (although I think "The Departed" is Scorcese's best film) i The Godfather 1 & 2 in my top 10, Goodfellas is in my top 20 so even though i do agree the godfather is better, Goodfellas is up there in my opinion

To me RB is hard to beat as a boxing movie and as a great film. The visuals, the music, the story--made a real bad guy come off maybe not good, but better than he deserved. Though you gotta admire his guts in the ring. And now his longevity.

Though I love RB, I also love when they take a real good guy, who against great odds, has an epic tale and a great movie--like Serpico. (He did use a little Martial Arts in the film, tripping up another cop who was menacing him. In real life Serpico did study some of that.)

Anyway thanks for the feedback on the films.
Goodfellas belongs no where near the first two Godfather films. The first is arguably the best movie ever, with only Citizen Kane in the discussion with it IMO, and the sequel is easily the best sequel ever.

It's mind boggling that Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, and Goodfellas all didn't win Best Picture at the Oscars. That's inexcusable that not one won that Oscar.

I'm more of a speilberg man than PJ. Schindler's List is one of my favorite movies of all time. Peter Jackson is great but I coulda lived without his remake of King Kong.

I don't want to get off-topic and turn this into a movie-only thread, not a boxing movie thread (if that hasn't already happened). I'm not telling anyone what they should or shouldn't like. Tastes are personal. What I'm saying is, although "Goodfellas" is a great film, there are great films and then there are GREAT films. "Goodfellas" cannot be mentioned in the same breath with movies like "Seven Samurai," "Citizen Kane," "Casablanca" and, yes, "The Godfather." It's kind of like saying Manny Pacquiao is greater than "Sugar" Ray Robinson because you like him better. (Oops...hope I didn't start something there.... lol)

The Oscars have that history :/. And I agree, Goodfellas is great but Godfather is as near a perfect movie as I have seen. That one and City of God.

Can we get a little Stanley Kubrick in here please?

waaay of topic. But I didn't like Seven Samurai that much. I respect and understand its value. But the film just iisn't for me.

Back on topic, kinda.... I find that the fight scenes from Cinderella Man has one of the best cinematography of them (apart from RB).
