khan lost by 1st round ko and came back to become a champion of a higher division. kirkland still has a chance, it depends on what he does with it.. he shouldnt have had 3 back to back fights in the space of around a month..
and ishida was too much of a step up in quality of opposition, he's the type of opponent you need at least an 8 week camp for.. so kirkland still gotta shot... but the next year should reveal all and see if he's got what it takes..Comment

Do you know how much more money this guy can make? He is looking at a career of making millions.Anyone else feel this way?
I mean, this guy was overhyped worse than Danny Jacobs and Vic Ortiz (Jacobs KOd by Pirog, Ortiz exposed by Maidana and now has a title but was still exposed by Maidana to begin with).
Who else thinks James Kirkland should retire?
I mean, losing by 1st round KO to Nobuhiro Ishida is god damn embarrassing.
James Kirkland is probably the biggest boxing bust of the last 10 years, and his KO loss to Ishida is one of the worst performances ever in the history of boxing.
"Pathetic" doesn't even come close to capturely how truly bad Kirkland's performance was. Whatever he does for the rest of his career won't matter, as he'll always be remembered as the guy who got KO'd by Ishida.
I really think retirement is the best move for Kirkland.
You know what though you're right. He should retire, especially with no college degree to fall back on, and oh yeah not to mention just being released from prison.
This is his job not a hobby.Comment

The reality is that losses like the one he experienced can actually make him a better fighter.
He didn't take a bunch damage that will hurt him long term.
If he sticks with full camps and more sparring he'll be fine.
A new trainer wouldn't hurt either.
Losses are not always career definers. He can erase this loss with one good performance against a top guy to include avenging his one loss.Comment

def we have a prob nowadays when it comes to loses ... we're all bandwagon jumpers and 'exposed' and 'bum' is the most overused words by boxing fans. its annoying ...Comment

He shouldn't retire, but he should need to have a few fights on undercards before they put him back on HBO.Comment
