All said, it sounds wrong to pay tribute to a murderer, no?

Nobody really knows exactly what happened in the Valero case, speculate yes, but it's speculation from what you read/hear about in the media and so on. Obviously the guy was really messed up in his head, and probably didn't know what he was doing, and was also out of his mind on drugs/alcohol.

As provious posters pointed out, all sympathy should be with the children and rest of the Valero family left behind, and that's really it.

Though we can feel for them, none of us are among the victim's family and there's no sense in pretending we are. People in Venezuela obviously feel strongly enough about Valero to honor the KO Artist, so that's that.

      EDWIN!

His family were very scared of him, and by family I don't just speak of his wife and kids, but his mother and uncles as well. Not too long before his death, there was an article here on BS that quoted an uncle, or somebody else, I can't remember who, saying that Valero was completely out of control and that the authorities did nothing to him because of his close ties to President Hugo Chavez... On a side note, I found it a bit odd that he was able to commit suicide in jail (with his shirt, no less); however, what I didn't find odd or saw as far-fetched was when I heard he murdered his wife. And to me, that deserves no tribute!
I'm going off subject here but I hate ignorance. When you said communist country I'm sure you weren't refering to Venezuela... Because it's not!!! Just because he took back his oil-fields from foreigners and gave them to the people it's rightful owners doesn't make his country communist. Also the US led coupe with the people ********ically defeated by Chavez was rejected and rebuffed by the people when they took to the streets and freed their ********ically elected president out of false imprisonment and put their ********ically elected president back in office. Maybe Valero did get special treatment and that was F'ed up... Maybe his lovely wife could have been saved and maybe Valero himself. But, a troubled boxer getting special treatment doesn't compare to the special treatment given to people lying to congress and the American people to start an illegal war or outing a CIA officer and not going to jail. **** stinks everywhere so makes sure yours don't before you start popping off at the mouth in a judgemental tone about **** that you obviously know nothing about.

Totally agree with you. Paying tribute to this guy REALLY sends a bad message to our young.
