I think this fight could not have gone better. If he just came out and KO's Berto in the first round, then I think people would have just said Berto was a bum etc...

The fact it was a war and there were multiple knock downs and Ortiz showed the heart of a warrior, was the best thing for his image as a fighter.

Ortiz shocked me, he showed heart of a true Mexican and beat Berto up.
    These were his exact words

“I’m not going to go out on my back. I’m not going to lay down for nobody. I’d rather just stop when I’m ahead. That way, I can speak well when I’m older. I’m young, but I don’t think I deserve to get beat up like this. I’ve got a lot of thinking to do.”

I can see why you would say that........I had a hard time with some of the stuff he said too......specially the "I don't deserve to get beat up like this" part.......

To me it was gut check time........IMHO people were just waiting for a ***** in the armor to come down hard on him....and they got more than that.....but with this win I think he shut alot of people up....

Ortiz's heart was never in question imo.

Even after the Maidana quitting I was never to down on Ortiz. Saturday was a good look but it will never completely erase quitting. Ortiz can go on to do many great things in boxing but quitting will always be there. Just the way the cookie crumbles!!

I still wonder how Ortiz would react if faced with someone who never gave him a moment to breathe like Maidana didn't allow. He would probably be just fine, but I still have that thought in the back of my head.
bingo. after that knockdown i saw that same look on his face the night he quit on maidana but, berto was so gassed at that point ortiz knew to hang in the there a little longer. i gave props but i still have my doubts.

Yes. And I don't think anyone could say no, not even Bam Bam. He went to war with Maidana and quit. He went to war with Berto, showed a ton of heart, and pulled out the win. Hats off to him. He definitely changed my mind about him.

I like his skills and punching ability. Was suprising to see him get up and fight back, also he was rocked a few times and took it pretty well.

He is probably mentally stronger now. Lets see in a fight he gets all cut up again and see how he would react in the sight of his own blood. The answer might be there

I have been on the Ortiz bandwagon from the gate and never questioned his heart. Only a fool would have questioned it. The Maidana fight, he gave all that he could and I respected him for that.

ummm I mean the guy still quit against Maidana, that still happened. I think Ortiz showed A LOT of heart and determination in beating Berto and I certainly applaud him for that. I like Ortiz I really do..I think more than anything 147 is just a MUCH better weight for him than 140 was.
