When will Mexican Americans be considered Americans?

This actually seems directed at me, so I will respond like it is. I have never and will never "disown" a fighter a loss. I am a big fan of Brandon Rios and despite his connections with Antonio Margarito and even if he were to lose I would turn my back on him. As for drug dealers I don't think that is appropriate for this conversation.Funny how when they do good or win something they are American, yet when they deal drugs or end up in prison they are Mexican. TS is a ***in idiot, they are MEXICAN/AMERICAN, mexican by blood, American nationality.
You cannot take away someone's culture, sorry but you just can't. You can't accept people at your own convenience.
There's a reason they continue to hold up the Mexican flag and rep Mexico, because they love and respect their culture no matter how much you want that to not be the case.
Just because you have no culture and forgot about your roots in Europe, doesn't mean Mexican Americans will.
As for taking away their culture, that I am not. I have addressed that they can be proud of being Mexican and being an American. I believe it is wrong that people don't consider Mexican Americans, real Americans. Do we not consider African Americans real Americans?
If I was a Mexican American I would be very proud to be Mexican but I'd also be proud of what my parents accomplished and would be proud of being an American as well.Comment

Listen, I am Mexican American and I'm just trying to make you understand why we are not seen as American. This actually seems directed at me, so I will respond like it is. I'm sorry but you can't NOT accept us when we are seen as gang****ers and drug dealers then when some Mexican American boxer does well like Guerrero then you want to claim him....*** that it doesn't work both ways.
I love this country and give thanks to everything I have gotten from this great nation but I am also proud of being of Mexican blood and always will. I have never been accpeted in this country, been called racist names and we have NEVER been given the respect we deserve.
We work in the fields, we go to war and die for this country and yet we still are not seen as Americans. We hold our Mexican culture close because it's never been taken away from us like white people's culture from Europe.
Guerrero is Mexican as is Vargas and Oscar De Lahoya....regardless of where they are born.Comment

I am sure he'll be devastated...And the fact that they consider themselves more Mexican makes them less of an American??? You can take that fat *** Vargas anyways. Dudes a punk, always been a punk and Mayorga made his sloppy ass look like a *****.
You can be proud of your Mexican heritage and still be recognized as an American. There are hard working families that busted their butt to get to America to provide their sons and daughters with a better life. Tell Nonito Donaire that he isn't an American. I bet it would be a slap the face after seeing what his family went through to bring him to the states at such a young age.
Do you feel that even though you were born in the Philippines, that your being a California resident in any way softens or takes away from your Filipino support?
I think that in some ways, that some of the native Filipinos look at me the same way that the Mexicans sometimes look at Oscar De La Hoya, I guess. There is an issue. They want more guys that are living on the Island.
But you know, I was born there and I was raised there and spent some of my life there. I think that it doesn't really necessarily matter what or who you are, as long as you have it in your heart to be proud of who you are.
And that's who I am. I bring the flag and I swing the flag. Ever since I was younger and an amateur here in the United States, I've always flown the flag and I've always been proud of my Filipino heritage because that's who I am.Comment

Exactly. If Guerrero had lost like Arreola did. He would not be accepted.Funny how when they do good or win something they are American, yet when they deal drugs or end up in prison they are Mexican. TS is a ***in idiot, they are MEXICAN/AMERICAN, mexican by blood, American nationality.

LOL some Americans are DESPERATE for a Top Fighter I guess, but when they do have a top fighter they don't even support him or get behind him
seems like the Media in American spend more time bashing their Top Fighters then they do Supporting Them, then they jump on and off fighters bandwagons
so I don't blame Bam Bam Rios, or Guerrero for representing MEXICO more then they do AMERICALast edited by KnockUTheFukOut; 04-10-2011, 12:08 PM.Comment
