It probably has something to do with the name of the country. I don't know any other country that has the name of the continent in it like the United States of America. People just refer to it as America for short.

Also, to be fair if you ask someone from like Canada if they're American they'll probably tell you No, I'm Canadian.

Pity party? LOL do you know anything about Mexican culture and Mexicans? Last thing we do is feel pity for ourselves, we work hard and do the work nobody wants to do.

It would be like me even thinking for a second I understand what it would be like to be black man in this country, I would never have the ignorance or arrogance to even consider that.

There are literally 9, 10 generations of Mexican/Americans in this country and they aren't treated with respect, dignity or considered Americans for one second.

I'm glad you personally have never treated anyone this way but that doesn't mean it doesn't go on.

We work, we die, we do everything for this country yet we are not treated with respect or seen as equals.

There's a reason Latinos and blacks and other ********** don't assimilate well in this country, it's not because we are just "feeling sorry" for ourselves.
How are blacks and hispanics not assimilating well in American society? I constantly meet both races with respectable jobs. Not to mention both of those demographics are growing on population percentage.

Im sorry if youre from a predjudice part of the country, but it aint like that everywhere. and if youre talking about illegal immigrants doing the work 'nobody else wants to do', you do realise thats against the law, correct?

And yea Ive been treated differently based on how I look. So were my parents. **** happens when your race is different from the majority. Do you really think complaining about it constantly is going to do anything good? If anythign you just make it worse since that complaining just alienates you from non-Mexican Americans, and when you start dividing groups up by race racism inevitably occurs.

And do you really think that assimilation into America will occur when you dont even consider yourself Americans? I mean, what the hell do you expect?

Heck, US citizens should be called ALIENS! That land used to belong to the native indians.
Yeah. I'm sure some Black and Asians do. I'm also sure some Mexicans do as well. But mainly the Whites like to call us names like illegal aliens, ******s, or ****s. They also give us unfair treatment.

I'm not going to get into illegal immigration because that's a 40 page thread I don't have time to get into.

"complaining" about it is exactly what needs to be done, so you think people should just keep their mouthes shut and accept injustice? Things never get accomplished that way.

Look, I never said I don't consider myself American. I just want you to understand that the reason we don't assimilate very well is because we have our own culture which was never taken from us. Mexico, Puerto Rico and other Latin American countries are right around the way so we weren't stripped of our culture.

Sorry if you don't know your culture and don't feel close to it. You cannot conquer people, displace them and think they will forget where they come from.

We will NEVER forget our culture, EVER.

And if you want us to feel proud of being American, that will happen when people start treating us like we ARE Americans.

Yes i get your point about nationality, just like Russian, Swedes, etc. in Europe. But, the term american itself should not be monopolized only by US citizens as all other nations within the Americas are american by right already.

All US citizens should call themselves as ALIENS to be fair and give everyone equal footing whether they are african, mexican, europeans or asians.

I think it's only apt US citizens to be called ALIENS since the USA is a cosmopolitan country and a melting pot of almost all races in the world. I wouldn't even be surprised if there's a Martian there posing as a US citizen.

people already consider Mexican Americans as Americans. the more Mexican Americans look at themselves as Mexicans, the more Americans will think of them that way. youre just hung up over being the one to take the first step. Do you want retribution over 'injustice', or do you actually want progression?

no one is asking you to give up your culture. Thats why America has so many diverse cultures and is such a melting pot. Its turned us into having no real 'American' culture, because we accept all different ones.

and no, complaining doesnt do any good in a social setting. if it is governmental problems, thats another thing. but socially it just alienates one race from another. Ive seen it happen all the time before...race 1 gets angry at race 2 for supposed 'racism', and then race 2 starts accusing race 1 of racism. or as they like to pretend, 'counter racism'. It happens even on this ****** boxing website all the time. constantly claiming racism simply segregates yourself and others racially, and when that happens racism starts popping up inevitably.

flat out: If you want to be treated as Americans, then youre going to have to look at yourself as American in the first place.

Most of the Mexican people that I have met have been great people. But I was put on a Mexican crew for work and experienced the prejudice just the same as you in my own country, these ****ers weren't even born in or live in America. I was basicaly forced out of a good paying because I stood for myself as a person and wouldn't take their ****. You can cry all you want about equality, it comes down to the man and how bad he wants it......Rockin'
