deanrw is correct, Kirkland's epic rage has been somewhat tamed by the new handlers. Some of the 'ferocity' has been sacrificed to try and create a less reckless, more lasting style. However, as with Hatton against Pacquiao, the 'slowing down' just makes the deficiencies all the easier to exploit.


However, the pre-parole violation Kirkland wasn't that much better ultimately and was cruising for a bruising exposure just the same.


No, exposure is not just an overused buzzword in this case.

"exposed" is one of most over used terms by boxing fans. That being said Kirkland was exposed. But IMO more in terms of the fact that he's def not he same fighter he was before he went away. In both of his comeback fights he looked bad as well. This is obviously not just rust anymore. I think when he left jail he musta forgotten his chin. There's no other way to explain him getting hurt by every punch from a guy who is noted to have zero power. Do I hope this is just a blip? Ya. Will I watch james in the future? Most definitely. Do I think he's going to be the force he once was or be a top fighter in his division? Odds are probably not. just facts.

Face it, Kirkland will only ever amount to a B plus grade fighter, akin to Ricky Hatton, or Maidana, and he will be lucky to reach that level.

He is just isn't that good. His chin in terrible, he has no defence, and has no real boxing skills to speak of. The only thing he had going for him was his power and nationality. Thus he was hyped by the American public and media, beyond all reason and logic, as an animal that was a huge threat to all in the middleweight divisions.

He was exposed and by a journeyman with very little power at that.

I think it's as simple as this as well. He's not the same guy. Thought maybe it was just rust, obviously it's something much more then that.
