In what year did you start following Boxing?

In 1993, I was 9, my first fight in attendance was in San Diego. My uncles forced me to go. I didn't want to go. But, they forced me. They had Camacho and Norris on the card. Who my uncles were big fans of. But, there was this one fighter who caught my eye. My uncles didn't know who he was. So when I got the program. I found out it was Felix Trinidad, it was the night he won the IBF title from Maurice Blocker. When he KO'd him in 2 rounds. I followed not only Tito but boxing. I started reading and asking my uncles question about older fighters.

Speaking of Terry Norris, my workplace (Tribal Casino in SD) used to host these "Battle Of The Badges" annually. He always gets invited as a guest and I spoke to him a few times but I still couldn't figure out what he's saying, he was slurring his words so bad. I guess that's what too much boxing can do to a person...

I'm pretty sure that I'm the oldest boxing poster on BoxingScene by a long margin. I'm not proud of it and wish it was reversed. I HEARD my first fight, at least the first one I can recall, on the RADIO. It was a TOMMY FARR fight. I'm not going to say who his opponent was, although I certainly remember it very well.

An amazing thing here. I was just looking up Farr's record on Boxrec. The story I always heard and read about him, was that he began fighting in the local fair boxing booths, taking on all comers, and had literally hundreds of fights. But the amazing thing, I repeat, is that his Boxrec record shows about 120 documented regular fights that he turned pro at THIRTEEN years of age.

With 6 rounders too. I've never heard anything like that before, and only found out about it just now. He must have been a big kid, as he ended up at 6'1" and over 200 lbs. But still...

One of the most astonishing fighters I've ever seen, other than the greats like Robinson, was Laszlo Papp, who turned pro aged 32, and retired undefeated. He was actually a very light middleweight, really a natural welter, but fought at middleweight. Only 5'5", built like a tree trunk, as fast as lightning, hands and feet, and one of the very few I've ever seen, who could REALLY turn it UP to an astonishing degree when he wanted to, which was all the time, and as brave as a tiger.

He was one of the few that I could never imagine ANYONE beating him.

He just wouldn't let them. He was that kind of fighter.

1990. On a family holiday to the UK, me and my pops watched Eubank vs Benn on the tv. From that point on the All Blacks were always 2nd best for me.

I was crazy about Ali growing up, but I never truly watched boxing. After watching Leonard vs Hagler, I became addicted to the sport.

Mike Tyson drew me in with the Sphinks fight then got me really addicted when he lost to Buster Douglas and I was just 10 when that happened.

Following boxing? 1999.

I was a casual fan before that, just watching De La Hoya fights. Then after this fight:



I started watching old tapes my grandma's best friend's son gave me, like Barrera-McKinney, and Gatti-Robinson.

We didn't have HBO until late 2000. So it wasn't until then I got introduced to guys like Lewis, Floyd, Naz, etc. The first PPV I saw that didn't involve De La Hoya, was the Trinidad - Vargas fight. Still one of my favorite fights for sure.
First fight I went to live was actually here in San Francisco, and it was Floyd-Chavez, and Pac-Sanchez. Kinda ironic.

Watched some fights during the early-mid 00's, but started to follow boxing intensely in 2008-2009.

I watched quite alot of old fights in those last 2-3 years though.
