Comments Thread For: Arum Ecstatic as Arbitrator Rules Against Golden Boy

Donaire, his team, his advisors and Golden Boy promotions should feel ashamed for not covering their basis before proceeding with this cluster **** of a situation. Nonito was on the verge of stardom but couldn't let a potential fight with Moreno play out and/or Abeko if he beats Mares. Maybe a future move to 122 vs Vazquez Jr/Rigondeaux? Then to 126 vs Gamboa/Lopez? Now I'm guessing he'll be on the shelf again for another 6-8 months without a fight. Great move "Flash".Comment

Top Rank can claim whatever they like, the arbitrator didn't say that they are right.
He just said that Golden Boy can't sign Donaire at this time. Whether Nonito is still under contract to Top Rank or not is a matter that will be decided later.
If he is not under contract Golden Boy can sign him then.Comment

If your reading of it is true, what's the basis of declaring that he was poached then?Top Rank can claim whatever they like, the arbitrator didn't say that they are right.

If there is no valid contract there is no poaching because he is a free agent.
So for the arbitrator to decide that the agreement between TR and GB was breached he HAD to first conclude that from a reading of the evidence available to him there is indeed a valid contract.
The ultimate decision will be made by the courts but the arbitrator's decision is not a good omen for Golden Boy.
Its pretty clear bro.Last edited by Gabilan; 03-29-2011, 08:08 PM.Comment

Top Rank just TKO Golden Girls Promotions.
Everything about GBP is a joke. Their lawyers don't even know how to read a contract lmaoComment

The article says that Golden Boy/ Top Rank cannot sign each others fighters when that fighter has an agreement unless there has been a determination that the contract is no longer binding. Technically Donaire is under contract at least until June 2011 and Nonito/ Golden Boy are basing the "null and void signing" under a "breach of contract" that has not been validated by a court system or an arbitrator. So yes he is still under contract until it is ruled otherwise and not just an opinion of Donaire, his wife, GBP or GBP's lawyer. That's why normal companies verify a contracts status then make a signing, not vice versa.Comment

This is what happens when a bunch of amateurs go against a pro like Arum. Like a little chihuahua that gets thrown a bone by a dumb kid. The chihuahua happily takes it without knowing the bone belonged to the pitbul next door, who of course when he realizes his bone is missing and sees the little naive chihuahua happily playing around goes and bites hiss head off.Comment

This is exactly right. Nonito is a professional fighter and he needs a professional team and that includes his MANAGER. I have nothing against his wife, but I think having his wife as his manager sends the wrong message and makes him look like an amateur, ***** whipped kind of guy.Comment

The status of Nonito's contract with Top Rank is being contested. Because of that Golden Boy cannot sign him at this time.If your reading of it is true, what's the basis of declaring that he was poached then?

The arbitrator is just saying that they have to clear that **** up first before GBP can step in.Comment
