I think you underestimate his ability to box on the outside. I agree, JuanMa is better on the outside and I think he's the better boxer. That's why I said if the fight goes into the later rounds, I see JuanMa with the advantage when things slow down. He's just the better boxer.

Interesting comparison, I wouldn't be surprised if JuanMa beats him. He's a better pure boxer and has a hell of a shot himself, especially that right hook.

Thing is, he get's caught A LOT, he leaves himself open and Gamboa is so fast.

        Interesting.

There are many differences though; the main one being that Barrera was able to walk through Naz's biggest shots and Naz was able to take Barrera's. Could Juanma walk through Gamboa and vice-versa? I don't think so. I really can't see this fight going the distance.

I'd also throw in that Gamboa, while unorthadox, has far more actual boxing skill than Naz ever had.

I had this very thought the other night. It made me shudder. lol The main saving grace for Yuri, in this comparison, is the bold. I'll add that Naseem relied even more on natural ability than Gamboa...and he wasn't as fast. I remember seeing an interview were Hamed claimed he really only learned some basics in the gym and took it from there. Yuriorkis is well-schooled, but is so gifted that he chooses to freestyle it very often.

The beauty of this fight is that not too many people (myself included) are sure of the outcome. This match-up features some interesting nuances and makes for some compeling discussion. Besides Mayweather-Pacquiao, there isn't a single fight I want to see more. This is what boxing is all about!

I used to favor Lopez if they ever met, but Gamboa's balance has improved greatly. Gambo still has some bad amateur habits like Khan, he worries too much in delivery a combo in speed instead of delivering an effective combo. That why you see so much rabbit punching from him
Good observation about the balance issue. Yuri used to simply appear like a talented guy, but he looked too wild. In the Solis fight, he was more controlled, and it made him look like a monster. I don't like the rabbit-punching at all. It makes Gamboa look dirty. But, frankly, I almost get the impression of a guy with a machine gun. Once he pulls the trigger, he just sprays his shots; not very accurate, but something is going to hit its target. JuanMa, on the other had, is much more accurate with his punches. Once again, a fight boxing fans are salivating for....

I don't know if Gamboa is a better boxer, I disagree. I think sometimes people confuse boxing ability with natural speed and athletic ability.

There's no doubt Gamboa is the better athlete but that doesn't mean instant win, if that was the case we might never see a Mexican champion...hahah

I think JuanMa is the more experienced and better resume fighter. He's been in there with much better opposition than gamboa and we don't know what Gamboa will do when faced with a fighter like JuanMa.

The thing that would worry me if I was JuanMa is Gamboa's speed. JuanMa is open for a lot of shots, this could be bad.

even fight for me. i don't see it going the distance with their chins and punching power. but i also think the longer the fight goes, that's an advantage to lopez as gamboa tends to get reckless and lose focus here and there

Just to clarify: You don't think Gamboa is a better boxer than the Prince was?

It's hard to say because Prince was so unorthodox. Gamboa is definitely classicly trained, anyone coming from the Cuban olympic program is.

I think Naz was so awkward and his power made up for a lot of mistakes he made. When he faced Barrera, he was OUTBOXED.

I would say Gamboa is more of a classical boxer but Naz might have had more ability, could be close.
