Yours is not a thorough breakdown of the merits of each man's record, and especially not of Floyd's.

Plus, a lot of the 'best wins' you have noted for Floyd >>> Cotto's 'best wins'.

    • Stopping Chicanito in your first title fight >>> stopping Bailey

    • Jesus Chavez >>> stopping Maussa

    • Stopping undefeated Corrales >>> stopping undefeated Quintana

    • Two wins over Castillo, who was on an excellent lightweight run >>> stopping Torres

    • DLH >>> Foreman; noting the split-decision as if its credible shows you up -- I could show myself up by pointing to Foreman's crippled knee as if Cotto wouldn't have wrecked him just the same, but I won't -- and the judging, of course, was skewed for De La Hoya, just like all the terms of the fight were, but he still couldn't get their nod, which should tell you something about how clearly Floyd won that boxing match

    • Stopping a very live, vicious Hatton quite arguably >>> scraping by an undynamic choker in Clottey

    • Better performance against Mosley; you can argue the age issue (just don't forget that Floyd fought a younger Judah), but I could argue back that Floyd fought a Mosley who was rejuvenated from the flagging version Cotto met -- ultimately, Floyd's performance was much more impressive

    I like Cotto, too, but,

Cotto will not leave a greater Legacy. Cotto doesn't have the stronger ledger. And many objective, knowledgeable "true boxing fans" (and historians) will agree with me on that.

Cotto > Mayweather in the sport.

Cotto has lost to an all-time great (who would embarrass Floyd) and lost to the plaster in Margarito's handwraps. He never dodges anybody, didn't make excuses not to fight Pac, and when he beats Margarito in the rematch and Floyd ducks out of the Pac fight for good, Cotto and Pacman will fight again. Cotto is a fighter and a class ac., Mayweather is an arrogant punk who doesn't want to fight, but just does it to collect a paycheck.

A true warrior >>>> pathetic coward.
Just look whats happening now, everyone is making fun of Mayweather, hardly anyone has respect for him except *****s. Do you honestly think in future he will be remembered as a true warrior? LOL
Next generation will remember Mayweather as a ducker who dont want to fight risky fights and wants to preserve his 0 at any cost.
Cotto will always be remembered as a true warrior.

This is the dumbest thread I have ever seen in my life. Mayweather's win vs Corralles>>>Cotto's entire career.

Floyds accomplishments are much great than Miguels. Miguels resume is arguably better than Floyds but Floyd certainly has a much greater legacy. He is a champion in countless numbers of divisions and not to mention the greatest fighter in a certain division. Floyd is in many historians top 50 fighters of all time. Miguel Cotto probably isn't in the top 100.

It's easy to love Miguel because he is such a wonderful guy that puts on a great show for the people but he isn't as great as a Floyd Mayweather.

Has Cotto ever been more than a title holder (lineal champ or ring champ) in any division he has fought in?

Cotto has never been Lineal Champion any of his 3 divisions as a title holder.

Mayweather's entire run at Welterweight will leave historians scratching their heads on his place in history. If he elects not to fight Pacman, his entire career will be overshadowed by the fact that he chose not to fight Pacquaio.

Scribes won't forget that in 2008, Floyd elected to retire instead of fighting Cotto, who alot of people thought would give Mayweather the most competitive fight he'll ever had. If Mayweather and Cotto fight at this moment, assuming he wins, it'll be his best win. The world will remember that he fought Baldomir over Margarito when Margarito was arguably the best fighter available.

Being called a coward by the media is not the best way to end a career.

If Cotto defeats Margarito, I think it'll be all that is necessary to surpass Mayweather, assuming he whimpers out of the sport and doesn't fight again, or takes another annual tune up.

Keeping in mind, Floyd doesn't really have a true, defining fight that people just go back and watch, just for the sake of watching a great fight, like a Cotto/Margarito. He does have the Gatti fight, but Gatti was just a sad shell and it was one sided.

I like Mayweather, think he's a supreme athlete and all. But in this day and age, its not about belts in a saturated field of divisions. Its about who you fight, and the competition you fought.

OK, so he's never actually been the "best" in any division but people are claiming his legacy will be better than a P4P great.
