Not really, he's basically admitting he's a blown up fighter himself. Basically it just means he is a bloated 154 fighter who beat up the 160 lb champion. Sergio is not really a MW, he's a really good SW fighter who managed to best the MW champ. Sure he's probably getting comfortable there...

He challenged himself (probably was having some trouble making 154 he is an older fighter) and just decided to campaign at 160 instead. It does not mean he can handle the fighters at 168. Those guys probably rehydrate to what? 180+ lbs... so now people want Sergio to challenge 180+ lb monsters?

I think he's calling out Pac to get his name out there. Deep down he knows Pacquiao will not step in the ring with him.

To the people who speaks Tagalog, what is Manny saying? I am seeing this video in other boxing website and people are saying Pacquiao thinks he can go fight Martinez.

Is a fight between Pacquiao and Martinez possible? This video is confusing as hell since I don't understand what they are saying. I know Martinez called Pacquiao's name out loud and it seems Pacquiao might take the challenge. And ladies and gentlemen, if this happens I don't even know what the hell it will mean in boxing terms.

You know I don't get Sergio Martinez. What is there to grow out of at 36 years old? I mean at 40, Bernard Hopkins jumped not to 168, but to 175 and beat the best Light Heavyweight in the world in an upset unanimous decision win. Martinez is saying he's too small for SMW, and that he can make 160 easily, I believe him about making 160 easily because he doesn't even use the 160 limit in weigh ins. But it's about him being too small for SMW. Like if he thinks he's too small for 168, then what does he think about fighting Pac/May at 154-155? They're already not the biggest 147 pounders, the best yes, but not the biggest. So he's willing to fight them at a weight that they will be even smaller at, 154, where they each only fought once: Mayweather vs DLH for DLH's WBC title that Oscar won by stopping Mayorga, and Pac barely vs Margarito, 150 catchweight for the vacant WBC title.


Martinez needs to get his mind right, he can't just go around calling out welterweights but then when asked about moving up 1 weight class, he claims he's too small. If you're supposedly still a 154-160 pounder, then fight 154-160 pounders like you did with Williams, Dzinziruk, Cintron, and Pavlik. Don't ruin your killer lineup, keep adding those names like Angulo, Kirkland and when Strum wants to step up then he can get it too.

Not all humans have the same exact anatomy dude or else I could say if Pacquiao moved up from 112 to win a lightweight title then Luis Concepcion should be able to as well. You know Hopkins had to work his ass off to make 160 towards the end just think that he even skiped 168 and went straight to 175 something which just cant happen with Martinez they are 2 completely different bodies. Martinez can still make 154 same cant be said about Hopkins when he moved up. Lightheavy is natural for him especially with his height. Stature has to be taken into consideration for some people in relation to weight. Look at Jeff Lacy hes the same height as Martinez and fought at 168 but can you imagine Martinez looking as bulky as him? Like Martinez said, he would have to bulk up and work to add boxing-fit weight instead of loosing weight.

if he is natural 154 lbs, why he vacate that and choose 160lbs???? I highlight your contradicting "opinion"... If you are natural 154 lbs, then why you having problem making that weight????

Hopkins started his career at 175 though, and is way bigger than Sergio. I can understand Sergio not wanting to jump up right now, because he is still growing into a full fledged middleweight. Another couple fights at 160 and he'll be ready to move up.

I think Pacquiao and Mayweather are too small to be expected to fight Martinez as well though. Martinez has enough options at 154-160 that would prove him as the best without fighting those two.

Well obviously now he is, they're 2 weight classes apart just like Pac and May are 2 weight classes apart from Martinez. But the Hopkins of 160 wasn't weighing in 180-190 on fight night, he was weighing in the same as Martinez. If you mean that Hopkins is taller, yeah he is but height doesn't matter. Glen Johnson is shorter than Martinez and he was a top LHW and is now a top SMW, and was once an undefeated MW.

I like Martinez and all, but it's obvious he doesn't want to go up 8lbs because it's too much of a challenge for him, but he's willing to challenge smaller guys to come up to fight him and using the "Oh i'm a small guy, I can't hurt anybody, 168 is too much for me" excuse. He expects May/Pac to do something that he doesn't even want to do. If he's really a small MW, then just go back down to JMW, he doesn't even use the MW limit.
