Yeah fine if he can beat Cotto but right now he is out of the picture and Cotto is at least off of two good wins so another Cotto wins puts his name up there as a possible opponent.

No, I don't think he deserved a shot last year but I am not sure whether Sergio was MW champ at the times those comments were made, it may have been after the PWill "loss" when he was just looking for a notable fight.

I could be wrong about the timeline though.

there you have it...you did'nt think he deserved it then, but that did'nt stop sergio from calling him out....it's just surprising to me that he's not calling out margs now that he's in a position of taking it...the last time he did, margo was chasing a pac fight...sergio definately was a mw champion when he called him out, this was right before the pac vs margo fight....

sergio toying with margo is a prediction, a probable guess but still a guess nonetheless.......but margo beating sergio really happened, not just a guess...

I'd like to know what Grustler has to say about this.

So he wants to get his title back which was unjustly stripped from him so long as it's the WBC belt held by Zbik/Chavez who are not elite fighters.

When the exact same situation is presented only with the WBO belt that Pirog has it's out of the question and his idiotic promoter Dibella actually talks as if Pirog himself stripped Martinez of the belt.

Martinez and Dibella are hypocrites and making themselves look cowardly. They're officially ducking Pirog.
WBC belt has sentimental value for him because it's the belt Carlos Manzon held and because the WBC gave him his first opportunity to be a title holder, which got him out of obscurity.

Martinez has plenty of opponents from the welter and jr middle div. to fight that could tie him up for a couple of years.

winner of cotto-margairto makes most sense-its big money, big name, big unification fight aswell?.

chavez is a big name also, and that fight would clear up this b/s same title mess.

ide like martinez to fight pirog and beat that style for another title to unify, and pirog has been on hbo a bit before so it could sell quite well.

ide slyvester and sturm to fight again and unify both their titles, then for martinez to knock the winner out.

sergio needs to fight for more belts and to unify either or both middleweight divsions.

Sergio against any of these fighters would peak my interest: winner of Cotto vs. Margarito, Pirog, Sturm, winner of Chavez vs. Zbik, Angulo or Kirkland. What I don't want to see is him fight Peter Manfredo. Manfredo seems like a nice guy but would get stomped by Martinez and if Martinez just wants big fights, Manfredo does not qualify. They talked about that fight on Wednesday and I hope HBO rejects it. He may deserve a softer touch after his big fights with Pavlik, P-Will and Dzinziruk but Peter Manfredo, get the f**k out of here...

Why hasn't any Sergio fans addressed this point? Because it exposes Martinez as the hypocrite that he is.

I'll address the point about Sergio not moving up. Maybe I'm missing something but when he said Pacquiao and Mayweather there were 2 facts understood. The first is that he mentioned them in the context of wanting the best fighters, and last I checked they are considered that. Also, he never "called them out" in the sense that he called them pansies or soft or cowards, etc for not moving up. If anything, he's recognized that the fight would be difficult to make and hasn't pressed it, he tends to just be answering questions asked of him. We all know it was a b.s. move but Pac did move up to fight Margarito, if Sergio turned around and actually called Pacquiao out for not coming back up (which again, he hasnt as far as I know), then you couldn't really blame him because Pac did it before. Sergio has shown he'll fight the best available, even if that means fighting a very good no name like Dzinziruk whose risk outweighed his benefits. If Chavenz beats Zbik he should take that fight and take his fight with Cotto, those will be his big money fights. Besides that he should unify JMW and MW and who knows what develops while he does that.
