As for me, a win is a win, label it as you please, but it still matters. It's apart of boxing, you enter that squared ring putting your career on the line. Margarito won that day, period. Sergio has improved, but that's irrelevant to the past.

Well 26 is the exactly that age when every single boxer must step up and fight legit opponents, gatekeeper level, even if you are green. But you are bringing up Torrecampo fight when Manny was 17 years old. It's not a great win, but still it's pretty good win for Margarito, who wasn't anyhow too much difficult opponent that time.
