The Toney vs Sweet Pea analogy is spot on. When Toney was middleweight champ Sweet Pea started campaigning as a welter, as Pac is now. He also won a 154 trinket.

For this to have any chance of getting done, Martinez needs to get down to a fair inbetween weight of 150-152, which he says is impossible. So he either kills himself in the gym cutting down there and risks coming in weak but gets the biggest payday he'll ever get, or he continues fighting at middleweight calling out Pac and never gets that payday. The choice is his.
Ridiculous to even request a cathcweight for a P4P champion. Pac should have just given Martinez's 154 belt back that he won vacantly at a catchweight if he can't hang. Why win it, expect more on your legacy and then let some other soft touch, unranked fighters get a shot at it after you vacate it? Pac could have just fought there if he wasn't sure of the weight difference. Why go for a title there? To pad his legacy and boast about his so called "8tth title". I said it before and I'll say it again. Pac is a good fighter but is mostly hype these days.

I say they should do it. two of the best fighters in boxing meeting at a middle weight to duke it out? How can I say no to that?

Ha ha ha! Pac team would request 147LB, eventhough they know that Martinez couldn't make it. Roach will say "sure we want the fight but at a catchweight of 150 or 147 because I have to protect my fighter" What a joke. Can't wait till Martinez is officially placed #1 over Pac, which should be in the next couple of weeks by how it is looking.

why not? Pac is the bigger payday, the better boxer but he is the smaller man.

147 to 150 if Sexy can make that weight.

Doesn't matter, Pac still beats Sergio anywhere south of 155.

LOL! so that's the best martinez can do, challenge smaller men (manny, floyd, cotto) to attain his dream of being the p4p king?.. well, that's weak...

he can blitz what manny has done by fighting bigger men (e.g. dawson, pascal, or any of the semi-finalists of the super six tourney) and not by fighting pacquiao himself...

why i don't see any news about martinez challenging any dude from 168 or from the light heavy division?...

so they want to see Pac who weighed 144 lbs his last fight to face Sergio in 154 lbs? and thats REASONABLE?

haters can hate but to say the fight should happen in 154 was plain ******..why not try Sergio come down to 147 lbs? any version of Sergio against Pac in 147 would be a total annihilation in favor of Pac.

Pac is miles ahead of Martinez. anyone who want to see Pac fight Sergio in 154 lbs are just a bunch of haters who cant accept that Pac has been the P4P King this long and the face of boxing.

so its no fair to ask Sergio to go down to 147 lbs because he cant make it but okay for Pac to go up to 154 lbs even though he wont even make 147 lbs?
why you guys hate Pac so much?

We have to remember that Manny Pacquiao is human, after all. He can't be expected to keep fighting guys that are naturally bigger than him. Although he beat Margarito convincingly, I think Super welterweight proved to be Manny Pacquiao's limit. It can be argued that Pacquiao took quite a beating himself, as a result of the weight and height disparity during the fight.

Sure this fight would be great for boxing, but we should be realistic.
