Have Pacquiao and Martinez ever fought in the same division?

When Pac fought Margarito, Martinez was already a middleweight. His last four fights have been at middleweight. Pac's last 4 fights he's weighed 138, 144, 145, 144. Martinez: 159, 159, 157, 158.

The Toney vs Sweet Pea analogy is spot on. When Toney was middleweight champ Sweet Pea started campaigning as a welter, as Pac is now. He also won a 154 trinket.

For this to have any chance of getting done, Martinez needs to get down to a fair inbetween weight of 150-152, which he says is impossible. So he either kills himself in the gym cutting down there and risks coming in weak but gets the biggest payday he'll ever get, or he continues fighting at middleweight calling out Pac and never gets that payday. The choice is his.

Why do people want to see this fight? I mean sergio looked like a full middle weight in his last fight. He would kill manny. Its expected of manny to fight all these bigger guys. How about martinez steps up and fight the likes of andre ward, carl froch, mikkel kessler any of those super six guys. What is everyone going to make him pound for pound the best by fighting smaller guys. I still think the better fights for manny are against guys from the 140, 147 weight classes. Shoot manny eating 7 to 10 thousand calories a day can barely make the 147 148 mark. And people want him to fight a guy struggles to make the a154 155 mark.

This is a fantasy fight. They are two divisions apart and Pac already weighs in 2-3 lbs below the welterwieght limit at weigh-in time so he's not even making the limit for that division. Like someone said, Martinez needs to fight guys 2 divisions higher if he wants to prove something. He's not going to get any credit for fighter smaller men.

I don't think the fight can be made. Martínez is looking unstoppable, he always shows composure in the ring. He always looks relaxed in the ring. A southpaw who can really hit, throw in combinations, with speed, a very good chin and by far the most dangerous bigger man Manny would face. I don't see Arum putting Pacquiao in there with Martínez and standing to lose money in a potential fight with Mayweather. But at this point, I don't even know if there's any effort on any side trying to push Mayweather/Pacquiao and at this point, I don't even care anymore.
