    You can't award lineal titles with hindsight. Either Williams was still ranked #2 at Welterweight when Marg fought Cotto, or he wasn't. If he wasn't, then that fight was for the lineal title. If he was, then it wasn't for the lineal title. What happened afterwards doesn't make any difference to that.

    You didn't rank Williams at Welterweight at that time, but pretty much everyone else did, including all the respected independent rankings (Ring, boxingscene, espn, yahoo, boxrec).
