Here's an interesting take from Tim Starks:

You should know that WBC prez Jose Suliaman, which just gifted Saul Alvarez a junior middleweight belt so as to suck up percentages of his big purses, thinks we could get Alvarez-Chavez in 2014, which would be a marination job for the ages. Maxb0xing's Steve Kim raised an interesting point about what Alvarez getting the belt means -- that is, that his competition level could step up by necessity, what with a bunch of quality 154-pounders ranked by the WBC. Kim also suggested the WBC would protect him as long as it could, and I suspect that's the most likely outcome. If they found a way to leap over all those 154-pound dudes who are actually good and proven to make way for Alvarez-Matthew Hatton, I'm sure they'll find some other exceptions in there rules for Saul. As for Hatton, he'll move back to welter, and Golden Boy says he'll be in line for a title shot there, and that HBO is interested in him. I'd like to see him do something more significant at welter before that happens, but maybe Hatton's gutty showing was enough for HBO to return interest, or maybe they just owe GBP some more dates.

How long has it been since we last went Round and Round? Judging by the long list of fights in the works below, too long. Too, too long.Besides the men in the headline, we have the latest on Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather, plus what's next for Juan Carlos Burgos, Antwone Smith, Marco Huck, Erislandy…

As long as he keeps fighting nobodies with decent looking records on paper, with low KO ratios, he'll keep on looking like superman to casual boxing fans.

thats going to happen, now he's going to be forced t face the top guys, one thing is to jump all of them and get the shot, but i doubt those ranked fighters will wait for a long time for their opportunity, they will speak up,and i think saul being a champ now is a big mistake, they are rushing him and now he will be forced to defend against angulo, williams who are ranked, giving him this title was a mistake, although he has over 30 fights he's still young and they should have upped his level of competion already against better fighters so he can improve but instead they gave him the title and now i think they probably made a mistake because a guy like angulo who can take punches will just crush canelo, angulo will chase him all over the ring throwing hard punches and canelo i doubt knows how to fight going backwards, angulo would probably ko him in 2

It's funny how as soon as a guy becomes a star, everyone starts hating him. Say what you want about Canelo's boxing skills, the kid is a superstar, he has an exciting fighting style, he comes to give the fans a show, not just to pad his record, throw jabs and avoid danger. Canelo is good for the sport because he has star power. Most people that post on this site are just boxing snobs, they hate everyone that's already known and popular and love everyone that is unknown and still obscure.

I'm Mexican and I can tell you right now this dude does not have it to be great. It's not hating I am just calling it how I see it. All he has is a decent punch which isn't extra ordinary. I just wonder who GBP or Sulaiman will dig out of the wood works for this kids first defense? Maybe it will be some dude with a weird name like the one Chavez Jr. is fighting. Some guy nobody, not even their mother has heard of. He should fight Sergio Mora. Mora will even kill this fraud fighter. Put his ass in a tourney and he gets spanked all day. No defense, no speed, not even good stamina. Pisses me off when the promoters for sake of making a dollar try to feed the public bull ****tttt.

Shut the *** up larry you act like Saul was the one responsiable for making last saturdays fight a title fight. Is he the president of Golden Boy? Is he the chairman of the WBC? Seriously what do you want him to say? No thanks? There isn't a fighter alive that would say no to a shot at a vacent title dummy!

Sometimes I wonder if you even watch boxing or pay attention to it!
