That's the problem right there. He was rushed and got the belt via bogus means and thought it will smooth sailing from hereon in. Got the distinction of being the youngest superwelterweight champ, and they never thought that being a champ, you got to lay out on the line once in a while. It's harder to stay up there than to get there, if you get my drift.
I consider him as a titleholder, but not a champion...Comment

Thats the best way to shut the critics, but he really needs to do something about his trainer & conditioning coach. The new super welterweight champion of the World Boxing Council (WBC), Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (36-0), arrived to hero's welcome at Mexico's Miguel Hidalgo airport. The 20-year-old star of Guadalajara, won the vacant title last Saturday in Anaheim, California with a twelve round decision over Matthew Hatton. Alvarez will stage his next fight in Mexico against a ranked opponent in the top five. He wants to make his first defense in early June.

He still shows the same flaws, from 5 previous fights. He gassed out by round 8. And the trainer is a total dong. Not once did he every instruct Canelo in how to handle Hatton.
Jesus Christ what is Golden Boy doing here. You would think that with Canelo wiliness to commit, and the strong following. He would invest just a tad more, to smooth out those rough edges.
