Like it or not a belt matters in boxing, regardless of how ridiculous the situation has gotten currently. Boxers work their a$$ off to get a title shot, it's one concrete incentive they have. I'll give you Vanes Martirosyan as an example. He gets a lot of hate on here, but is another young fighter begging for a title-fight for the past year. He hasn't gotten it yet, but will be facing Saul Roman on April 23rd to become the mandatory to Alvarez's title. Will Canelo fight him? Does Vanes count as one of the two easy fights Canelo said he wanted to take before stepping it up, or is Vanes a legitimate threat according to Golden Boy? If you won't defend, vacate the title.Comment

My thing is not that he should fight Martinez or Pwill but more the point is it wouldnt take a fighter that good to beat him. What are we waiting for. I agree with Roy. He will never turn into some great boxer puncher. He is what he'll be. If someone can give me the example of a fighter that corrected that many flaws in two years I'll lay off it. Then for it to be ok for him to tell us to our face that he plans to take on 2 scrubs before he takes a real fight is rediculous. Two will turn into 4 easy because GBP knows exactly what they have and to be perceived as a bad ass and kept like the boy in the bubble is his destiny.Comment

Canelo is a talented young prospect with potential who imo is being matched properly and who shouldnt be rushed. My problem has nothing to do with Alvarez and has more to do with HBO,Golden Boy,and the WBC who is trying to con us into thinking this guy is Chavez now.Comment

Yes, to us fans he may still be a "prospect," but they've technically made him a champion, and that's where my problem is. It is one or the other. Each comes with its pros and cons that he has to face.Comment

Blame, Golden Boy, the WBC, or HBO, but he is not longer a prospect, but officially a champion. If you want to grow up so quickly you can't expect to have the same responsibilities you had as a child.
