Amateur boxing has very little to do with the professional game - they're two different sports.

And until about 10 years ago the US generally did very respectably at the Olympics. Given that the Cubans couldn't turn professional unless they went into exile, and therefore most of them fought as amateurs for their entire careers, sometimes into their 30s, it's hardly surprising that they generally did better than green fighters who were still in their teens. But they didn't wipe the board, and the US usually won a few boxing medals at the games and won golds reasonably regularly. But with the exception of Casamayor, those Cubans who were trained in the amateur system under Castro, and then defected and turned pro, did badly as pros.

Only way Vitali loses is if he gets cursed by a wizard on the way to the ring.

Rodriguez was a very good fighter in his time but was a product of pre-Castro Cuba. Gavilan was even earlier, as were Cuban ATGs such as Kid Chocolate. Napoles was also a product of the pre-Castro era.

Most of the products of the post-Castro Cuban amateur system who have turned pro have done very badly as pros. Of those, Casamayor was easily the most successful.
...except the recent group that is pretty much dominating

Historically, if you factor in Cuba's population compared to the rest of the world and the fact that they cannot fight professionally without risking theirs lives by leaving the country, it is very notable that they have even one soon to be HOFer.

The Cuban school of boxing is legit. It's "American living" more than any fighter that beats them.

The new gen (Gamboa, Lara, Rigondeaux, Solis) is going to set it all straight.

Gamboa will probably lose to John if they fight. Solis is more interested in eating than fighting and will be easily beaten by Vitali. Lara has so far only fought bums so can't be judged as a pro yet. Rigondeaux only managed a split decision win in his last fight against a journeyman. "Pretty much dominating"? I don't think so.

And Casa won't get in the HoF.

Obviously kid you don't much about boxing.Cuban boxing school doesn't even know what is head movement. The size is the only criteria, they never produced a swarmer in the higher divisions due to that flaw.
The old American school represented by
Cus,Eddie, Jack,Eddie,Ray,Steward, etc, is the best by far.It isn't even close.

Remember, Vitali is not the fastest guy in the world and if Solis can jump in, get a shot or two off and then move, he might make it difficult for Vitali. But with that said, Vitali only throws very hard accurate punches so if he lets his hands go, he will catch you and when he does, it will then be very difficult to bounce around after a few rounds. I think Vitali will win but considering Solis' style, I think it will be another boring fight...
And I think a lot of people are over looking the fact ,that Vitali fights very tall, and throws a lot of punches per round.Alot more than an average heavy weight. This can negates Solis's speed advantage.

As was pointed out, many of those predicting a Solis win will dismiss him as a tomato can after the fight and give Vitali no credit for the win, as usual.
