Comments Thread For: Arum: Solis Has a Real Good Chance To Beat Klitschko

Top Rank's CEO, Bob Arum, is giving undefeated Odlanier Solis a good shot of upsetting WBC champion Vitali Klitschko (41-2, 38KOs) on March 19 at the Lanxess-Arena in Cologne, Germany. Solis (17-0, 12KOs), a 2004 Olympic Gold medal winner, is a big underdog on both sides of the ocean. He was a top amateur who was groomed by the Cuban boxing system. Solis was recently co-promoted by Top Rank, but he was granted a release because Arum's company does very little business with the heavyweight division.

its common knowledge what Uncle Bob said. Cuban boxing school is the best, and he rightly mentioned the Eastern European school.

back in the day every sport fan knew that.

all are talkin about the ams, boy.

Solis lacks XP and other tools at pros to beat a champion.

I doubt Wlad or Vitali could have beat Solis back in the day.

He had both hands behind his back the whole time he was talking, and his fingers were crossed.

Amateur boxing is a completely different sport from the professional game nowadays, and there are no successful professional Cuban trainers. Most Cuban boxers who turn pro do not do very well. The fact that Casamayor is by far the most successful Cuban pro of modern times speaks volumes. Casamayor never set the world alight.

Before the second world war, the Cubans produced several ATGs, but they haven't even produced any likely future Hall of Famers in the last 50 years. Casamayor certainly won't make it into the Hall of Fame.
