Hatton-Mayweather: Cortez constantly breaks them up any chance he gets, killing Hattons only shot at getting any work done via inside fighting. (Favors the American)

Did his actions change the possible outcomes? That's for you to decide. But the evidence of him playing favorites is clearly there in my opinion.
It was the other way around, he wouldn't let Hatton hold and then four months Hopkins was holding/clinching Calzaghe all night but your right, both favoured the American.

Word was though that because that reffing was so controversial in Hatton fight, he decided to let more go in the Calzaghe fight.

Oops yeah, right on. I don't buy the excuse, he adjusted his ref. style to conveniently favor the American guy after being accused of favoring the American guy?

I thought he did a decent job in Khan-Maidana, but he was favoring Khan (the expected winner) in that fight.

Bayless, Smoger, and Drakulich are all way better than Cortez.

I dont know Demon. I looked at that fight and it looked to me like both those fighters did their share of holding and hitting. Bhop is another oone of those guys who give all refs fits. Hatton was hooking and actully cranking up on the elbow. One huge difference is that Hatton is jerky and out of control too. Bhop is much more crafty with it. Still I couldnt imagine being upset with Cortez during that fight. He does his best not to penalize both so it seemed fair. Is there a time in the fight that I should look at specificly?

Bayless is the best IMO. I never really fall in love with reffing because like it was stated earlier, "The best ref is the one you dont see". But....When you draw fighters like Bhop and Hatton you really have to work. How can you all pick the fights with the most difficult fighters and decide he's **** as a ref. What about the other hundred something championship fights he had without incident. Ive seen many many worse refs I cant call by name. You cant throw daggers because your favorite guy comes up short. Not you in particular just in general that does seem like where the biggest gripes are coming from. I mean its real anger and it puzzles me.

            The whole fight?

He was breaking Hatton and Mayweather up when they were still punching each other.

Watch the fight with Humberto Soto. He doesnt have a ***in clue what hes doing

With the Bhop/Calzaghe fight I think he did ok to deal with those two. I do remember a couple of spots in the MAy/Hatton fight where he did step in anticipating a clinch but not excessively. If Ricky tried throwing punches rather than ramming like a bull he might have got some slack. The Soto fight is an ugly scar on his resume. It really got to me but my first thought was "Cortez is getting old". Senile maybe but overly bias I havent seen it that way. But to just be disgusted by the guy? If I used that logic then Bayless would be on the ****ty ref list too. He wasnt clear on some of his breaks with Floyd and Mosley. At one point I thought he was gonna square off with Mayweather. What about the guy in the May/Gatti fight when floyd had Arturo's head down. Floyd got a free shot because of him. I just cant take a few choice fights out of hundreds and condem a guy to hell.

You're talking about a few random incidents. In the Gatti-Mayweather fight, it was Gatti's fault he got knocked down, he was complaining to the ref when you're supposed to protect yourself at all times.

Cortez is consistently bad. I havent seen a competent performance in years.

Watch Hatton - May on YouTube again, whenever Hatton got close, Mayweather intiated a clinch and within 1 second Cortez is on Hatton's ass, rinse repeat every 15 seconds for 10 rounds.

Whenever Hatton got Mayweather in a corner, a half-assed clinch or Mayweather ducking bellow the belt and Cortez breaks em up, and takes them back to the centre of the ring ruining any chance Hatton had of getting to Mayweather in the corner.

He takes a point away from Hatton for hitting behind the head, though it is clear the same happened in rounds 1/2 when Mayweather did the same.

                  The guys a biased tool.
