It always strikes me as odd that posters genuinely dislike Joe Cortez. I never think to comment but I havent found a reason to dispute the way he does his job. I was just wondering what the problem people have with him is. He had the one phantom punch DQ but they all have hiccups. He's consistent with the way he orchestrates his bouts. The fighters seem to respect him more than most. He doesnt allow that bothersom holding and wrestling. Plus he's got swag and a good catch phrase. And Im not sure but I think he's a Mayweather fan in the privacy of his own home.LOL What more can you ask for? Much better than Nady or Smoger who seem like the paid off types. Sound off with your beefs with him because maybe I missed his fatal flaw.
What you got against Cortez? I like him.

Cortez is a great referee. The problem here is people are sore losers and need to shift the blame to someone else other than their fighter for losing. Hatton and Maidana, both brawlers, lost to a better boxer. In both cases their cry baby fans blamed Cortez for not letting them fight on the inside, which was nothing more than holding and hitting. Who the hell wants to see a fight full of holding and hitting? If you can't win without doing that, you're not that good and don't deserve to win. Go to MMA if you can't fight like a boxer. Rios, also a brawler, didn't need to hold and hit to win, thats why he won with Cortez as the referee. Had Rios lost, you better believe a lot of Rios fans would have put all the blame on Cortez.Comment

Those are the kind of answers I was looking for. The second clip yes it was a terrible decision. Im sure if we dig deep enough we'll find a time or two that all refs had bad moments. Does it allow us to **** on the whole career of a man that's given his whole life to boxing? I didnt mean to dog Smoger out but he seems like a back room kinda guy. I could be totally wrong but no more wrong than a person passing judgement on Cortez. As for the situation with Sweet Pea, that cant be blamed on Joe. He took a swipe at the man in charge and then grabbed his face. I know it was harmless but Cortez is an ex-fighter that felt slighted. I dont see much wrong with that reaction. Im a man, youre a man so get your damn hands off my face. What's so damn disgusting about this discussion. You're a bit sensitive dont you think?Comment

OK. That makes sense. He's the only ref I see on blast consistently. I totally agree with you. **** that holding and punching. To his defense, he has made the best of some tough fights for a ref. Then his gets magnified because he is so active and a celeb in his own right. Hatton is a refs nightmare so cant hold that against him.Comment

what fight did you watch? amir khan did most of the holding... to one arm as maidana was wailing on him with the other, which is perfectly legal. why it was still broken up numerous times, idk. maybe because joe cortez is an ATG.Cortez is a great referee. i'm paid to protect you amir. your inside game is shit and you ain't got defense. just hold and turn away from him so i can jump in every time you're in trouble. i mean, i won't stop the fight or deduct points away from you for doing that or anything. i'll even take a point off for the elbow. i'm fair and i'm firm. ATG joe cortez.Comment
