For sure it was. I think he just was more into not being KO'd then taking his time to recover. Yeah, when you look at it like that. He did blow it.

Russell Mora has done nothing wrong but all right. Judah's chicken dance has proved that he's not capable of contining with the fight, Nagy is right.

Whats up with you guys saying he was the champ you gotta give him a chance? The guy was out on his feet and didn't respond when the ref talked to him so the fight should have been stopped plain and simple.

The ref could have stopped it but homie got up and I guess the ref wanted to give Montiel the benefit of the doubt eventhough he could have stopped it when Montiel got up. To the ref defense, he did jump in immdeiately and the other 2 punches barely connected. I guess fact of the matter is that the ref should have stopped it but I bet you that Sulaiman would have said that Montiel was still able to fight because he stood up. The ref could have stopped Maidana from beating up Kahn when he was out on his feet but he let it rock and Kahn won. Referee's are far from perfect but ain't mad at this one for what he did because he could have let Donaire beat the crap out of him like Maidana was doing to Kahn at one point.

I feel it should have been stopped for the simple fact that Montiel didn't respond to the ref. Khan on the other hand wasn't dropped just rocked and fought back at times.

i agree with sulaiman, the referee failed to perform his job, the result could have been more fatal if nonito connected the same power punch when it was resumed.

the ref should have considered the punch that caused the kd, secondly, he should have observed fernando's eyes while counting until he got up. the eyes will reveal the condition of the fighter if he can still continue. the referee failed to do these very basic procedure in officiating. the third flaw was, he was'nt aware that montiel failed to respond from his commands, he just wiped the gloves and ordered the fighters to engage again. it was too late when he realized that montiel was still out of his senses.

giving a chance for montiel should'nt be an excuse, his job is to evaluate closely the fighters situation especially when a fighter is badly hurt. bad decision could cause a fighter's life.

i don't like sulaiman either, but he has a good point of raising this concern...

I can see where you're coming from... I guess its one of those things we can analyze well after the fact. At the time it seemed like the ref did the right thing because the champ was not stumbling and on his feet by 9... so the ref stopped counting. In the end we should all be able to agree to disagree and atleast be happy for once we actually had a definitive ending to a big fight. Too often questions are left unanswered in the ring but as hardcore boxing fans we know that HAD Montiel not been given a chance to continue he would've cried foul and said the ref shouldn't have stopped it. Everyone wins because in this case... The champ got his nod to "continue", Donaire earned his KO and titles without a shadow of a doubt, and Montiel was ok in the end.

Good job to both fighters and referee.

I feel you... I still think Montiel should've been given a chance though because he beat the count surprisingly and showed willingness to get up and continue... Whether he was ready or not will always be in dispute. All points are valid... We should just be glad everything turned out ok.. However... this was all said a week after the fact.. Why the heck is he all heated up about it NOW?.. He needed 6 days to make a stink about it?
